Naalakkersuisut states: Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark - wants defense via NATO

The USA has again reiterated its desire to take over Greenland. The government coalition in Greenland cannot accept this in any way, emphasizes the chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D).

- Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. As part of the Commonwealth of Nations, Greenland is a member of NATO and the defense of Greenland must therefore take place through NATO, states the chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

It has now arrived a very clear message from Naalakkersuisut. The chairman of Naalakkersuisut emphasizes that Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark:

- Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. As part of the Commonwealth of Nations, Greenland is a member of NATO, and the defense of Greenland must therefore take place through NATO, states the chairman of Naalakkersuisut in a concise press release, and he continues:

- On the basis of the very positive statement for Greenland from the 6 NATO member states, Naalakkersuisut will increase the work to ensure that the defense of Greenland takes place under the auspices of NATO.

- All member states in NATO including the USA have a common interest in the defense of Greenland and the government coalition in Greenland will therefore work together with Denmark to ensure that the dialogue on and development of the defense in Greenland takes place in NATO cooperation.

Finally, the chairman of Naalakkersuisut emphasizes that the government coalition in Greenland believes that Greenland will always be part of the Western defense alliance in the future.

Greenland and Denmark on a common footing

This suggests that Greenland and Denmark have coordinated with each other ahead of the meeting with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio on Wednesday.

Prior to that, Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt (S) indicated to DR that she sees nothing wrong with Greenland without Denmark being able to hold a meeting with the USA.

But now the chairman of Naalakkersuisut emphasizes that Greenland together with Denmark will work to ensure that the dialogue on and development of the defense in Greenland takes place in NATO cooperation.

Vivian Motzfeldt has announced the following in a brief update on her private Facebook page:

- Dear compatriots, first of all I must thank you for your wishes for a good meeting and thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us strength, it really gives us a lot of strength.

- I want to promise you that we will do everything to work for our beloved country. We are going through a very hard time these days, in my department we are active and strong, and I promise you that I will have you in my heart and work to achieve the best position in the situation.
