After simmering disagreement: Folketing politicians come with a prayer to Greenland

Denmark needs Greenland's help if an American takeover is to be prevented, says Member of Parliament Rasmus Jarlov.

- If Denmark is an evil colonial power, it is no aggression against Greenland if the Americans annex Greenland, but a liberation, writes Rasmus Jarlov about the situation in the USA, where he calls on Greenland to make it clear that it wants to belong to Denmark.

If Denmark must prevent the US from taking over Greenland, it is important that Greenland itself declares that it would rather stay with Denmark.

If Denmark must prevent the US from taking over Greenland, it is important that Greenland itself declares that it would rather stay with Denmark.

This is what member of parliament for the Conservatives, Rasmus Jarlov, thinks.

In a post on Facebook, Jarlov writes that he has given many interviews to international media, and here he is often asked if it is not fine for the Greenlanders to become part of the USA, now that Greenland is so dissatisfied with being part of Denmark.

That message legitimizes the US's takeover plans, believes Rasmus Jarlov.

- Not an annexation but a liberation

According to Jarlov, Denmark is doing everything it can to prevent an American takeover, but it requires Greenland's participation if it is to succeed:

- If Denmark is an evil colonial power, it is no aggression against Greenland if the Americans annex Greenland, but a liberation.

- American politicians can defend it against themselves and their hinterland, and the international community cannot fight back as much as they could, if you helped us to condemn the Americans unequivocally instead of constantly also condemning Denmark, reads the call from Rasmus Jarlov.

The announcement comes after recent days have shown simmering disagreement between Denmark and Greenland.

Vivian Motzfeldt will be at the forefront

On Friday, Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt (S), told DR that she should be at the forefront of the meeting with the US this week, despite the fact that it is Denmark that is responsible for foreign and security policy for the Kingdom. She has also hinted that Greenland should be able to meet with the US alone.

Her party colleague and deputy chairman in Siumut Ineqi Kielsen made a similar statement to Radio 4 on Sunday, and earlier this week DR could tell that a Teams meeting between Greenlandic and Danish politicians about the US situation ended in heated discussion between the parties.

In addition, there are also politicians in Greenland who see the US's desire to take over Greenland as an opportunity rather than a threat.

For example, member of Inatsisartut for Naleraq Kuno Fencker has told the American TV station CNN that he sees an opportunity in a free association agreement with the USA as a way to Greenland's independence.

On Monday afternoon this week, a clearer message came from Naalakkersuisut, which has sent out a concise press release, in which the chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), states that Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
