A new one accommodation tax has entered into force as of 1 January. This is reported by the Tax Agency his Facebook page.
This means that from this year you must charge a tax on DKK 30 per accommodation from foreign guests if you rent out accommodation or rooms via e.g. Airbnb, Booking.com etc. It also means that it now requires CVR registration to rent out via the above.
The fee does not apply to persons with residence in Greenland or private rental outside payment.
The disability and social area in focus
The disability and social sector will be significantly improved this year Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. The municipality writes this on its website. There is one increasing need for support, especially in Nuuk, where more socially disadvantaged people are moving to, and the municipality will now initiate a thorough analysis of the area in order to obtain one more coherent and effective efforts. Committee on orientation trip
Fishing, The Fishing and Agriculture Committee carried out a orientation trip to Norway and Denmark. The purpose was to gather knowledge and inspiration around the fisheries sector by meeting researchers, industry organisations and authorities. During the visit, the committee compared, among other things education systems and management models and assessed opportunities for production and marketing of Greenlandic fishery products.
European support
Several European countries and institutions stood publicly with Greenland and Denmark in the wake of the recent controversy with the United States. Ritzau writes that. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasizes that Greenland's future must be determined by Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark, and he expresses support for Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The EU Commission says that it continues will be in solidarity and uphold principles of sovereignty and borders inviolability. Germany and France also support and emphasize that borders may not be changed by force.
Over two million kroner distributed
Naalakkersuisut has announced that last year DKK 2.19 million was awarded in project funds and for fishing equipment for a total of 39 fishermen in both East and South Greenland. The funds are financed by Inatsisartut and are used for, among other things fishing seminar in Tasiilaq, motor training courses, information campaigns and equipment such as auto reels, longlines and fishing vessels.
16.5 Million for Aasivissuit – Nipisat
Three Danes foundations – Augustinus Fonden, Aage V. Jensen Fonden and 15. Juni Fonden – have granted a total of DKK 16.5 million for the next phase of the dissemination work for the UNESCO World Heritage site Aasivissuit – Nipisat in Qeqqata Kommunia. That the municipality informs on its website.
The support does it possible to continue the work of making the world heritage more accessible and understandable, especially for children, young people and local communities, and includes projects such as stories about life from coast to inland, hunting, nature and culture as well establishment of facilities out in the countryside.
Population development for 2024
In 2024 fell the population in Greenland by 157 people, from 56,699 to 56,542, according to Greenland Statistics. The decline was due, among other things, to more deaths than births and net emigration – a continuing trend in demographics.
Large expectations for 2026 for the literature
After one active 2025 with 50-year anniversary festival in Sisimiut, children's workshops and international success in Paris and Frankfurt, sees the Greenland Writers' Association (KA) until an even more exciting 2026. The highlight will be the participation as guest of honor at the Czech Republic's Authors Reading Month in July, where 31 Greenlanders writers and cultural actors present literature and culture in Brno, Ostrava, Kosice and Bratislava. A three-day "book industry forum" is also held for publishers and translators. In April, the second international festival for Arctic and Nordic writers of small languages in Karasjok, Northern Norway, in collaboration with the Sami Writers' Association (SGS).
