- The good annual result in 2025 is primarily due to that our trawler Svend C caught almost twice as much mackerel in 2025 compared to 2024, and that mackerel prices in 2025 were good.
This is what the CEO and main shareholder of the family-owned Sikuaq Trawl A/S, Carl Christensen, tells Sermitsiaq.
With a profit after tax of just over 78 million kroner last year compared to just under 39 million kroner the year before, Sikuaq Trawl broke a record in 2025. In 2025, the company thus delivered its best result ever. The company made money last year like never before.
The trawler company's revenue increased to almost 349 million kroner in 2025 compared to 282 million kroner in 2024.
Extraordinarily good year
The historically high prices for mackerel, which were a significant source of income for the company, contributed greatly to the excellent 2025 result, i.e. a profit after tax of just over 78 million kroner.
- 2025 was thus an extraordinary year that is unlikely to be repeated, says Carl Christensen.
Last year was an extraordinarily good year for the mackerel fishery, where Sikuaq Trawl managed to fish the entire quota and achieve almost twice as high prices as the year before.
The director emphasizes that in the fishing industry there are ups and downs, and as a company, you must therefore constantly be ready to adapt to new times.
- With a new fishing law, a decreasing shrimp quota over a number of years, and close to halving the mackerel quota in 2026, the companies have to adapt.
- Therefore, in 2026, we are choosing to adjust the factories in both of our trawlers so that they are stronger for the challenges of the future, says Carl Christensen.
Lower results in sister company
In addition to being a co-owner and director of Sikuaq Trawl A/S, he is also a co-owner and board member of the sister company Niisa Trawl ApS.
Niisa Trawl saw a slight decline in revenue and profit after tax. Last year, the company delivered a turnover of just over 166 million kroner compared to almost 220 million kroner the year before. There was also a decline in when it comes to profit. In 2025, there was a profit after tax of 20.3 million kroner compared to 34 million kroner in 2024.
In 2025, as in previous years, Niisa Trawl fished for shrimp with the trawler Regina C in Greenlandic waters. This year, the company expects a turnover of between 170 and 185 million kroner, while a profit after tax of between 21 and 25 million kroner is expected.
Svend C to fish for cod in East Greenland
Right now, Sikuaq Trawl's vessel Svend C is in Skagen, where it is having a cod line laid. The plan is for the trawler to start cod fishing on Dohn Banke in East Greenland later this month.
This year, Sikuaq Trawl has a quota of just under 4,930 tonnes of shrimp in West Greenland, of which the vessel has caught just over 3,100 tonnes. In addition, Sikuaq Trawl has a quota of just over 2,256 tonnes of offshore cod and just under 1,200 tonnes of redfish in East Greenland. In addition, there are 3,890 tonnes of mackerel in the international zone.
The company expects to have a turnover of between 250 and 275 million kroner this year and a profit of between 30 and 35 million kroner. H
The expectations are based on the fact that the company's allocated shrimp quota is 3,000 tonnes less this year than last year. In addition, the biologists' estimate for the mackerel quota this year is significantly lower than in 2025. However, Sikuaq expects prices for mackerel and shrimp to increase slightly.
