Royal Arctic Line's accounts for 2025 show a profit of 15 million kroner before tax.

This is what the self-governing company says in a press release.

This is a significant improvement from the previous year, when the profit was six million kroner. The profit was achieved despite a general decline in economic activity in Greenland, which has particularly affected freight volumes within the construction and fishing sectors.

The positive result was achieved, among other things, by the company adapting its operations and seeking new activities within the concession.

In addition, the subsidiary Arctic Umiaq Line has achieved a smaller profit, which is a clear improvement from the deficit the previous year. This profit was achieved, among other things, through adjustments to the sailing schedule to accommodate the locals, which has had a positive effect on the number of tickets sold to the local population, without affecting tourism revenue.

Naalakkersuisut replaced the chairman of the board

In October 2025, there was an extraordinary general meeting in Royal Arctic Line, where Pâviâraq Heilmann resigned as chairman of the board and was replaced by Inooraq Brandt, who had served as vice chairman.

This came after the shipping company announced a deficit of 56 million kroner in August in the first half of 2025.

At the extraordinary general meeting, the chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said that Inooraq Brandt was the right person for the work of developing RAL.

- The management of RAL has approved their strategy for the next five years. We are now facing a time when the ships will have to be replaced with newer models. And the collaboration with Eimskip will also have to be reassessed on an ongoing basis, said Jens-Frederik Nielsen and continued:

- You have a big task in ensuring that the country's cities and smaller settlements receive freight easily and stably, said Jens-Frederik Nielsen directly addressed to the new chairman.

Expectations for 2026

The group's result for 2025 is assessed as acceptable in light of the economic slowdown, but is still below the expected level, which should ensure sufficient savings for future investments.

In 2026, the group's result before tax is expected to be DKK 15-25 million.

This profit will strengthen Royal Arctic Line's financial basis for investments in the fleet, including new barges and feeder ships specially designed for Arctic conditions.

The investments will ensure the long-term robustness of Greenland's supply chain, writes RAL.
