The front figure since 2020 for major airport construction projects is now announcing his exit from Greenland Airports.
CEO Jens Lauridsen will step down when Ilulissat Airport is inaugurated, the company announced in a press release.
Jens Lauridsen states in this connection:
- It has been a truly unique experience and a great honor to be at the forefront of the work of establishing new airports in Greenland, he says and continues:
- We literally started with mountains and rocks, and today there are modern airports in Nuuk and Qaqortoq – and soon we will also put Ilulissat Airport into operation. This is the result of a great deal of effort from skilled employees and partners, who deserve great praise, says Jens Lauridsen, who took office in October 2020.
Will be available for a period
Greenland Airports is now starting to find a new CEO. However, Jens Lauridsen will be available for Greenland Airports for a period after his departure.
Chairman of the Board Jens Wittrup Willumsen praises the outgoing CEO for his efforts:
- Jens Lauridsen has played a central role in the realization of one of the largest, most complex and most ambitious infrastructure projects in Greenland's history.
- Construction of new airports in the Kingdom is in itself a rarity. If you add that the projects have been carried out under Arctic conditions and over long stretches at the same time, you realize the extent of the challenge, says the Chairman of the Board.
The airport construction projects in Nuuk, Qaqortoq and Ilulissat are the largest construction projects in Greenland's history. The projects have been discussed several times. In particular, in connection with the opening of the airport in Nuuk, the security aspect proved to be a problem for the start-up of the airport.
The airport in Qaqortoq opened earlier this month, and now only the opening of Ilulissat Airport is pending until October.
