Emma Goldman Snowball Award awarded to researcher

Vivi Vold, researcher, has been awarded the prestigious Emma Goldman Snowball Award.

- I was incredibly humbled when I received the award, Vivi Vold tells AG.

She says it was a great experience and particularly highlights being in the company of other strong women who work tirelessly in fields marked by resistance.

- It was more like being in the same room as other incredibly strong and amazing women who work tirelessly in fields and spaces that can be both tough and filled with resistance, says Vivi Vold.

The award means a lot to her work in recognizing Inuit knowledge from towns and settlements in South Greenland, especially Nanortalik and Narsarmijit.

Vivi Vold has over the years criticized structures that favor Western, Eurocentric knowledge production and overlook the knowledge possessed by Inuit people.

She emphasizes that the award is not only about herself, but about the communities and students she works with, and about making their stories and experiences visible.

- It means an incredible amount to my work and the work that many women do in colonial and structurally challenging spaces. To have this recognized and appreciated in a way that we don't usually experience gives motivation to continue and confirms that the work makes a difference, she says.

The Emma Goldman Snowball Award is an annual award given by the Dutch FLAX Foundation to support research and work on feminism and inequality issues in Europe.
