The family owned tourism business Experience Qasigiannguit invites the members of the Greenland Committee in the Danish Parliament to a series of adventure tours in connection with holding the nationwide event dog sled racing Avannaata Qimussersua in Qasigiannguit in Disko Bay i the end of March.
And the invitation, which, among other things, is on the agenda the committee meeting on 14 January, is well received by a number of Danish parliamentarians, who want to strengthen the relationship between Greenland and Denmark.
Happy for the invitation
Louise Elholm, Liberal, who is a member of The Greenland Committee in the Folketinget says that she is incredibly happy to have received the invitation from Experience Qasigiannguit.
- If in Greenland you want to look at us, then I think the Greenland committee should leave. I am generally positive about coming to Greenland, and I believe that the Greenland Committee should go to Greenland as much as possible because we would prefer to have one so close connection as possible.
- If it can be done in my calendar, I try to participate as much as possible in topics related to Greenland, she says.
She herself has proposed that the Greenland Committee should go to Greenland, and she thinks it is important that the Danish politicians meet with the Greenlandic population and participates in various cultural activities.
Backs up the idea
Anders Kronborg, the Social Democrats, who is also a member of the Greenland Committee in the Folketing, also supports a trip to Qasigiannguit at the end of March.
- I am always very open to to come to Greenland, and I also believe that it is important that the Danes Parliamentarians are often present in Greenland. When I was chairman of We were in the Danish Parliament's Children and Education Committee in the last term Greenland and the Faroe Islands with the aim of strengthening cohesion and knowledge to each other in the Commonwealth.
- I myself was at Pituffik Space Base just before the local elections and have been on an orientation trip in Greenland, so I have actually looked after the relations very much in relation to Greenland and has a planned trip there in May in connection with a business conference, he says.
Anders Kronborg emphasizes that Donald Trump's interest in Greenland, which has currently created tensions in the relations between Greenland, Denmark and the USA, do not play a role in what he thinks The Greenland committee must take a trip to Greenland in connection with the the nationwide Avannaata Qimussersua dog sled race is held.
- I am also one of them parliamentarians who have traveled extensively in Greenland. When I was chairman of Children's and the Teaching Committee in the period from 2019 to 2022 we traveled to Nuuk and South Greenland, where we made a very special effort around the Commonwealth, and visited schools and institutions and met with politicians.
- So my interest is unchanged relationship with Greenland, regardless of Donald Trump's interest in Greenland. I mean quite generally, that we should be very interested in visiting Greenland because we are part of the same Commonwealth and Kingdom. That's why I also use one spend time in the Folketing on having a good relationship with the Greenlandic parliamentarians.
Anders Kronborg emphasizes that he therefore will speak positively for the Greenland Committee to accept the invitation positively from Experience Qasigiannguit to taking a trip to Greenland when the topic becomes debated during the committee meeting on 14 January.
Strengthening the bond
Mads Fuglede, Danish Democrats, who is also a member of the Greenland Committee in the Folketing, believes that in general you must work to strengthen the bond between Greenland and Denmark, especially in that situation you are currently in.
- I therefore think that it is very good idea that the Greenland Committee has been invited to participate various cultural events in connection with the nationwide dog sled race being held because we should listen more to each other and put more effort into strengthening our ties, he says.
Interest brings joy
Kristian Jeremiassen, who is a co-owner Experience Qasigiannguit, is pleasantly surprised that the invitation in The Parliamentary Greenland Committee has been well received by the members.
- We would like to show the members in The Greenland Committee, that Avannaata Qimussersua, which is one of the largest cultural events in Greenland, can be a gathering point for everyone regardless nationality.
- But I also believe that they Danish parliamentarians should experience first-hand the climatic changes that the country is facing right now, but also that there are also good ones business development opportunities, including within tourism.
- We will therefore in connection with the visit at the same time offer the members of the Greenland Committee a number of adventure trips, including in the form of dog sledding, grouse hunting, observation of northern lights and various cultural events, says Kristian Jeremiassen.
Kristian Jeremiassen, who is a member of the municipal council in Municipality Qeqertalik and is a former member in Inatsisartut stresses that he has no political agenda in connection with the invitation.
Yesterday it emerged in KNR that Kristian Jeremiassen has also invited Jeff Landry, who is the US's special envoy Greenland, and which has been appointed by President Donald Trump, in connection with holding of the nationwide Avannaata Qimussersua dog sled race at the end of March.
