Atassut : Naalagaaffeqatigiinneq maanna illersuutissaavoq pitsaanerpaaq

Atassut's chairman, Aqqalu Clasen Jeremiassen, suggests that the party will enter the upcoming debate in Inatsisartut clearly and unitedly with one central message: Greenland should, in the current situation, hold on to the realm.

Members of Inatsisartut are to hold a political debate on the current situation Greenland is in. -Atassut will hold on to the realm now, and only take up the independence debate again later, when the situation is calmer, says Atassut chairman.

For Atassut, it is about security, stability and ensuring that Greenland stands as strong as possible at a time when the international situation is unusual and serious. Atassut chairman Aqqalu Clasen Jerimiassen emphasizes that the party will be fully prepared when Inatsisartut convenes, and that the party will present itself with a clear and united line.

Before Inatsisartut gets underway, Atassut delegates from across the country will meet in Nuuk on January 24 and 25 to discuss the situation and prepare the party's messages.

– We must be 100 percent ready. When we take the podium in Inatsisartut, we must stand united and know exactly what we are saying, says the chairman.

Independence is not realistic right now

Aqqalu Clasen Jeremiassen makes it clear that Atassut will argue in the upcoming debate that Greenland is in the strongest position in the current situation by maintaining the realm. He assesses that this is precisely the framework that gives Greenland the best protection and the greatest stability in a time characterized by uncertainty and pressure from outside.

- Atassut will therefore hold on to the Commonwealth now, and only take up the independence debate again later, when the situation is calmer, says the Atassut chairman.

At the same time, he emphasizes that this is not the time to make Greenland more vulnerable, and that the discussion about independence cannot therefore stand alone right now, when the international situation is so unpredictable.

– With Trump and J.D. Vance in the back of our minds, this is not the time to make ourselves more vulnerable. It is not realistic to talk about independence right now, says Aqqalu Clasen Jerimiassen.

The parties stand united.

On January 9, the Government of Greenland announced that Greenland's political leadership stands united in the current situation. At the same time, a call was made to bring forward the Inatsisartut meeting so that the parliament can have an honest and united political debate as soon as possible on what course Greenland should take.

Across the parties, there is agreement that close and intensified dialogue must be ensured with Greenland's allies and partner countries, and that work must continue to strengthen security for the population throughout the country during an unusual and serious time.

Inatsisartut's presidency has not yet announced whether the meeting will be brought forward. The meeting was scheduled to start on February 3.
