A 60-year-old woman was found dead in Paamiut on Friday evening, and the police are investigating the death as suspicious. A man has been charged and detained in the case, according to the Greenland Police.

On Friday, January 23, the police received a report at 10:45 p.m. that a dead person had been found at an address in Paamiut.

This is stated by the police in a press release.

The deceased is a 60-year-old woman, and police say that an investigation into the death has been launched due to the circumstances and circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

Among others, the National Forensic Science Center (NKC) and the Institute of Forensic Medicine have been called in.

Man arrested

A man has been arrested and charged in the case, says the deputy police inspector:

- That same evening, a man who was at the scene where the woman was found dead was arrested and charged in connection with the case, while we investigate various circumstances, says Deputy Police Inspector Malik Sandgreen.

The man was produced in a constitutional hearing in Sermersooq Circuit Court on Sunday and detained for 26 days. The police do not state what the man is specifically charged with.

As the investigation is still ongoing and the court hearing is being held behind closed doors, the police cannot provide any further information, the police wrote.

The woman's relatives have been notified.
