The United States is "in a good place" with Greenland at the moment, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a public Senate hearing on Wednesday.
The minister adds that a process is underway that will yield "a good result for everyone".
- Even as we talk right now, there will be some meetings at a technical level between us and our partners in Greenland and Denmark regarding this issue, and I believe we have a process in place that will yield a good outcome for everyone, Rubio says during the hearing.
- I think we will do something positive, and we will begin that process in a very professional and fair manner. It begins today, and it will be a regular process.
Rubio also emphasizes that they will try to do it in a way that does not create a "media circus" every time the negotiations take place.
- I think we will end up in a good place, and I think you will soon hear the same from our colleagues in Europe, he says.
Unnamed sources tell DR that American, Danish and Greenlandic negotiators began the series of meetings about Greenland on Tuesday.
The media writes this on Wednesday.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump said last week from the podium at the World Economic Forum in Davos that he would not use force to get Greenland - something he had previously refused to rule out.
Trump also said that he would seek immediate negotiations to discuss a possible takeover of Greenland.
Subsequently, Trump said that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had reached a framework for a future agreement on the issue of Greenland.
