Member of the Norwegian Parliament Aaja Chemnitz writes on Facebook that she and Senator Lisa Murkowski have been nominated for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize:

- For more than a decade, we have fought side by side to create focus on progress in the Arctic - and now peace in the Arctic

- And now I, together with my good friend and Senator from Alaska Lisa Murkowski, have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, writes the politician.

She further writes that it is a huge honor to be nominated for the Peace Prize for the work to find good and peaceful solutions in the Arctic:

- Thank you to our colleague Lars Heltbrekken in the Norwegian Parliament for thinking of us, writes Aaja Chemnitz.

Lars Heltbrekken confirms to KNR that he has nominated the two politicians for the prestigious prize. He tells KNR that the nomination is made, among other things, for the role of the two politicians in the crisis between the USA and Greenland/Denmark.

Here, Lisa Murkowski and Aaja Chemnitz were the main forces behind a delegation of American congressmen visiting both Copenhagen and Nuuk.

It is stated on the Nobel Prize website that there are a number of criteria for who can nominate individuals or organizations for the Peace Prize. Among others, members of parliaments in independent nations can nominate for the prize.
