Polar Seafood and Royal Greenland cannot agree on a solution. Therefore, political intervention from Naalakkersuisut is urgent so that Polar Seafood’s factory survives.
This is what Jens NapãtôK’, Naleraq, vice-chairman of the Inatsisartut’s fisheries, hunting and agriculture committee, says after an emergency meeting of the committee on Monday in Nuuk.
Will call naalakkersuisoq in consultation
Jens NapãtôK’ says that the committee is planning to call naalakkersuisuq for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture, Peter Borg, of the Democrats, in consultation.
– We have been updated with all necessary input from both Polar Seafood and Royal Greenland. Now we must have a meeting with Peter Borg. A political solution must be found now, says NapãtôK’.
According to Polar Seafood, the factory must have a raw material base of at least 10,000 tons of shrimp to ensure 12 months of operation. However, due to a decrease in shrimp quotas, the factory will be short of a total of 4,000 tons of shrimp over two years.
Ane Hansen took the initiative
It was Ane Hansen (IA), former mayor of the Municipality of Qeqertalik, who had put the issue of the future of the Aasiaat factory on the committee agenda.
According to Polar Seafood's CEO, Bent Salling, the company's negotiations with Royal Greenland have broken down. Without a political solution, Polar Seafood will soon make a decision to close the factory in the autumn.
When the two companies cannot agree, only politicians can save the factory, believes Jens NapãtôK’.
He makes this salute:
– Now the politicians must get together. The factory can only be saved if pressure is put on Naalakkersuisut by the elected representatives in Inatsisartut, he says.
NapãtôK’: - Alarm bells are ringing
Jens NapãtôK’, adds that the factory in Aasiaat with 116 employees is singing its last verse.
– Alarm bells are ringing. Polar Seafood has announced that the company will soon make a decision to close if a solution is not found.
The politicians (Naalakkersuisut ed.) must get together and do something, believes Jens NapãtôK’.
All five members of the committee participated in Monday’s meeting. over Jens NapãtôK', it was the chairman Bentiaraq Ottosen, Atassut, Ane Hansen, IA, Kristian Jerimiassen, IA, Pipaluk Olsen (D).
