The Future Greenland trade fair will have a sensational guest.
Donald Trump's special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, has announced his arrival.
Several sources inform Sermitsiaq, and Jeff Landry now also appears on the publicly available guest list for the conference.
Jeff Landry has stated upon his appointment that he will work to make Greenland part of the United States.
The employers' organization Greenland Business Association (GE) is organizing Future Greenland. GE Director Christian Keldsen emphasizes to Sermitsiaq that Landry has not been invited by Greenland Business Association, and Landry is not part of the official program either, but he is there as a regular paying conference participant, so to speak.
Participant from the “State of Louisiana”
According to the published list of participants, Landry is listed as a participant from the “State of Louisiana”. Jeff Landry is, in addition to being a special envoy to Greenland, also the governor of Louisiana.
Question: What do you think about having such a controversial guest?
- Future Greenland is a conference with a focus on business development for many years to come, and this implies significant international interest. The conference has always been open, and everyone can buy a guest ticket. Landry has chosen to do so. As I said: he is not part of our planned program, says Christian Keldsen and continues:
- We generally have good cooperation with the foreign representations. We maintain a good relationship with the countries that Greenland wants to cooperate with. We cannot prevent individuals from participating in our conference, which has over 500 participants from almost 20 different countries.
The Future Greenland Conference will take place on May 19-20 in Nuuk.
Appointed by Trump
Jeff Landry was appointed by US President Donald Trump as Special Envoy to Greenland in December 2025.
Donald Trump wrote about the appointment on his social media account Truth Social at the time:
- Jeff understands how crucial Greenland is to our national security, and he will advance our country's interests for the safety, security, and survival of our allies - and indeed the entire world.
Jeff Landry acknowledged the appointment by writing, among other things, that he will work to make Greenland a part of the United States:
- It is an honor to serve you in this voluntary role to make Greenland a part of the United States.
The appointment of Jeff Landry prompted Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and President of the Greenlandic Government Jens-Frederik Nielsen to issue a joint statement, emphasizing that one cannot annex other countries, not even with reference to international security:
- You cannot annex other countries. Not even with an argument about international security. Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders, and the US should not take over Greenland. We expect respect for our common territorial integrity, stated Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen.
Invitation to dog sled race failed
Jeff Landry has been reported to be on his way to Greenland once earlier this year.
He was invited to dog sled races by municipal politician and tourist operator Kristian Jeremiassen.
However, the Danish Dog Sledding Association KNQK found the invitation unacceptable and withdrew it - which is why the visit never came to fruition.
