MEDIE: Naalakkersuisoq fooled in fake video meeting

Naalakkersuisoq's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt (S), has apparently been tricked into believing that she is participating in a video meeting with two European officials.

In reality, it is a Russian comedy duo she is speaking with.

This is reported by the media TjekDet.

In the video, which has found its way to the Russian media Pravda, Vivian Motzfeldt speaks out, among other things, about Greenland's approach to the threats from Trump and the relationship with Russia and China.

Pravda is published in several languages ​​- including Danish here, where the video with Motzfeldt can be seen.

Have previously deceived high-ranking politicians

Also participating in the video meeting is Mininnguaq Kleist, a long-time civil servant and head of department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Research.

According to TjekDet, the Russian comedy duo goes by the names Vovan and Lexus. They have previously deceived European politicians. Among other things, in October 2023 they set up a similar fake video meeting with Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

At that time, it was a 15-minute video meeting, where Lars Løkke Rasmussen discussed the war in Ukraine and the possibility of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, believing that he was talking to a diplomat.

The new video with Vivian Motzfeldt lasts just over five minutes.

Not sharing information that was not previously known

During the meeting, one part of the comedy duo starts by expressing their admiration for Vivian Motzfeldt's fight for the rights of Greenlanders.

“It must have been very difficult for you to become the center of all these diplomatic scandals. But we, the Europeans, must do everything we can to support you and defend the territorial integrity of Greenland and Denmark,” the video says.

In the video, the Russian comedian asks Vivian Motzfeldt, among other things, whether she believes that Russia and China are a threat to Greenland. To which she replies that Greenland has made it clear that there are no Russian or Chinese ships in Greenlandic waters and that they have no Chinese or Russian investments. That part of the video meeting is quoted by Pravda.

According to TjekDet, Vivian Motzfeldt does not share information that the public does not already know.

Mininnguaq Kleist, who is the head of the department and appears in the video, tells TjekDet that the matter is being investigated. He confirms that there has been a conversation with “a man”.
