A man was found dead on Tuesday this week near Nuuk.

Greenland Police Chief Karsten Højrup Kristensen says the man was a 49-year-old man. The man had gone fishing last week and was supposed to have returned home on Monday.

The man did not return home, and relatives reported him missing.

On Tuesday, the man was found by a friend who knew where the man might be, on an island northwest of Nuuk.

The man was found near a rubber dinghy, and police suspect that it was a drowning accident.

When the man was reported found on Tuesday, the police sent a police cruiser to the scene, and the 49-year-old was rescued and transported to the hospital.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out, and there is nothing to indicate a criminal act, the chief of police emphasizes.

The next of kin have also been informed.
