When a piteraq hits without snow, small stones and gravel can be thrown through the air and cause extensive damage to buildings and windows.

No calls despite severe weather
The chief of staff at the Greenland Police, Aputsiaq Hansen, states that the police received reports of the severe weather in Tasiilaq, but that they were not allowed to call out to specific incidents as a result of the piteraq.
“Some buildings have suffered damage to their roofs, so we have encouraged citizens to stay indoors,” he says.
On Monday evening, the Greenland Police announced on Facebook that the road at Materielgården was closed due to damage to a building. According to Aputsiaq Hansen, road users were asked to choose an alternative route due to the risk in the area, but no physical closure was established.
The road is now open again.
– The weather should be calm now and good weather. We have not received any other reports of damage or the like, says Aputsiaq Hansen.
