ARCTIC CIRCLE RACE DEFIES LATE WINTER AND ADJUSTED ROUTES

Chairman praises volunteers and looks forward to anniversary

Participants are sent off in high spirits.

Jens Klaus Lennert, chairman, has difficulty hiding his satisfaction after this year's Arctic Circle Race.

– It has gone really well, and as always it has been a pleasure to be a part of it, says the chairman – better known as Kasik – with a smile on his face.

This year's edition gathered 200 registered participants, of which 196 stood at the starting line in Sisimiut. This is a slight decrease compared to previous years, which according to the chairman is mainly due to a late winter. The snow took a while to arrive, but arrived in time to complete the race – and according to Jens Klaus Lennert, gave an extra dimension of excitement.

However, the challenging conditions left their mark on the event. On the second day, the route had been changed for the participants on the long 160-kilometer distance. Lack of snow in the hinterland meant that the stage was changed to a 60-kilometer route against the normal 53.

– It was a bit longer, and the runners could feel it in their legs, the chairman notes with a loving laugh.

Despite both route changes and a predicted storm that fortunately never hit, the race was completed in a good atmosphere. Not least the many volunteers are praised for their efforts under difficult conditions.

Indispensable volunteers behind this year's race.

– I am deeply impressed by our volunteers. Year after year, they manage to lift a huge task with setup, teardown and logistics in tough terrain. We are very proud of that, says Jens Klaus Lennert.

While the last tracks are still visible in the snow, we look forward to next year and an anniversary that calls for something special.

– We are already looking forward to next year. It is the 30th anniversary, so we will definitely come up with something special, the chairman promises.
