Nina Vedel from Nuuk Gymnastics was there when this year's coastal team took the trip to Ilulissat in early November. The purpose was to introduce gymnastics to the city's citizens, schools and children. Since 2021, Nuuk Gymnastics has sent assistant coaches and instructors to coastal towns such as Maniitsoq, Tasiilaq and Sisimiut - in Sisimiut, it has even resulted in a local gymnastics association.

This year's team consisted of 10 assistant coaches, two instructors from Nuuk Gymnastics and two Ollerup-Abroad instructors, all passionate about gymnastics. On Wednesday, November 5, the team landed in Ilulissat, where, after a tour of the hall, they began teaching at the city's schools. The assistant coaches, who themselves are in grades 7-10, were in charge of the teaching, while the adult instructors assisted.

- Both the teachers and the students in Ilulissat welcomed us very well, and there were even students who sneaked in for extra gymnastics training when they got the opportunity, says Nina.

When school ended, the team started training in the Ilulissat Hall, which was buzzing with interested children.

– At one point, the queue for the trampoline tripled because the children in Ilulissat also wanted to train, says Nina.

The aim of the trip was to increase awareness of gymnastics in Ilulissat, strengthen the team spirit and the teaching skills of the assistant coaches. The coastal team is back in Nuuk, but Ollerup-Abroad instructors Johanne and Olav will stay in Ilulissat until December 1st to continue the gymnastics activities and find local enthusiasts who can continue the gymnastics.
