Audience flocked to gymnastics party in Nuuk

Line Poulsen, chairman of Nuummi Eqaarsaartartut – Nuuk Gymnastics, looks back on this year's gymnastics show as a great success.

The show took place on Saturday, April 18th in Inussivik, where around 600 spectators were in place in the stands from the morning.

The day began with a march-in, where the flag was carried in front, while around 300 gymnasts marched on to the floor to atmospheric music. The smiles were wide, and the community in the association was clear.

- It is fantastic to see so many people supporting the biggest gymnastics party of the year, said Line Poulsen, while also highlighting the association's wide age range from very young children to adults and seniors.

This was followed by a varied and beautiful program with gymnasts of all ages. The youngest showed their first exercises with support from parents, while the older ones delivered jumps and series including flips, twists and double somersaults.

True to tradition, prizes were awarded.

Alma Chemnitz was named Comrade of the Year, while August Laugesen received the title of Assistant Coach of the Year.

After a successful gymnastics demonstration, the association is now looking forward to a number of upcoming activities, including a visit by the DGI World Team, which will be coming to Nuuk for the first time in June.

- We hope that many will support - both for the events and for the future of the association. We need new forces, the chairman concluded.

This year's demonstration was yet another proof of the role of gymnastics as a gathering point across generations in Nuuk.
