KNAPK in a strong headwind

Economic crisis and the dismissal of the director are just some of the problems that Greenland's Fisheries and Trapping Organization, KNAPK, is facing at the moment - but also the organization's main board is not up to the task, believes the chairman of the fishing and trawling organization QAK

- In order to ensure the best conditions for fishermen and trappers in Greenland, a new organizational structure must be established, either by merging three existing organizations or by forming a body that can be a rallying point and that can look after the common interests, says Henrik Sandgreen, who is chairman of QAK. He does not believe that Vittus Qujaukitsoq can be held responsible for KNAPK's current difficult situation and therefore finds his dismissal to be reprehensible.

Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat KNAPK, which has recently been exposed for massive criticism from several players in the fishing industry, now receives harsh criticism from Henrik Sandgreen, who is chairman of Greenland's third fishermen's and trappers' organisation QAK, who believes that KNAPK's new main board with Pele Blytmann at the helm is inexperienced and unable to carry out the task.

Inexperienced management

Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat KNAPK, which has recently been exposed for massive criticism from several players in the fishing industry, now receives harsh criticism from Henrik Sandgreen, who is chairman of Greenland's third fishermen's and trappers' organisation QAK, who believes that KNAPK's new main board with Pele Blytmann at the helm is inexperienced and unable to carry out the task.

Inexperienced management

Henrik Sandgreen finds it extremely critical that fishing actors have not been for a long time informed about how KNAPK's organization will function in the future, believes The QAK chairman.

- We had expected that the new board wanted to start work immediately after KNAPK's general meeting, but it happened not, indicating poor management.

- The current management of KNAPK is a expression of lack of professional experience in organizational work. The board can not up to the task and need a lot of help, so it is inevitable that replace the board with someone with greater professional knowledge, says Henrik Sandgreen.

He also believes that the current management of KNAPK is to the great detriment of the fisheries organisations reputation in Greenland.

An enigma

The chairman of QAK also do not understand why KNAPK's director Vittus Qujaukitsoq has stayed fired.

- The executive committee and the main board are responsible for KNAPK's operation, so responsibility for the current situation should not be imposed Vittus Qujaukitsoq, but on the first main board with Nikkulaat Jeremiassen in the lead.

- The chairman of KNAPK Pele Blytmann says, that the director's dismissal is a wish of the local branches, which is difficult to understand. Should the main board make decisions based on the wishes of the local branches, or the main board itself has the right to make decisions? asks Henrik Sandgreen.

Should settle down together

Henrik Sandgreen believes that one of the options to secure the Greenlandic fishermen and catch it best possible service while restoring trust in the organizations is to bring together the three fishermen's and trappers' organizations KNAPK, SQAPK and QAK into one organization.

- To ensure the best conditions for fishermen and prisoners in Greenland, a new organizational structure must be established, either by to amalgamate three existing organizations or by forming a body which can be a rallying point and which can look after common interests.

- But one thing is certain. There is a big one lack of a joint forum to bring together fishermen and trappers at the moment, says he.

The earlier one chairman of KNAPK for eight years believes that the fishermen have been divided after they in recent years, the entry of representatives from various parties in fishing and the main boards and administration of the prisoner organisations.

Nikkulaat Jeremiassen, who was chairman of KNAPK until the autumn's general meeting, wants do not comment on the case.

Insecurity

Ulloriaq Olsen, who is chairman of KNAPK's local branch in Sisimiut, is concerned about the current one situation.

- I personally believe that we should consider whether we will remain members of KNAPK in the future, he says.

He believes that the main board should act quickly to solve KNAPK's financial problems.

- Not even a move has been made the table to solve the serious problems and now costs must be reduced to rectify the situation, he states.

He also believes that it was appropriate to fire Vittus Qujaukitsoq, who has been responsible for KNAPK's administrative management.

Members' wishes

Wood The Inatsisartut election this winter asked KNAPK's chairman Nikkulaat Jeremiassen, director Vittus Qujaukitsoq and main board member and now re-elected Ole Jørgen Davidsen up to Inatsisartut, which KNAPK's new chairman criticized at the time strongly. Pele Blytmann, who was chairman of KNAPK's local branch in Ilulissat, believed that it is not appropriate for KNAPK to be led by the former politicians associated with certain parties. However, he does not want to comment on whether this was the reason Vittus Qujaukitsoq was fired.

- The members of the organization want that the director has to be fired and we already know what that will mean for the organization if we ignore them. It is the members who finance the organization and we have had to follow their wish in order not to lose them, he says.

Pele Blytmann will not comment on Henrik Sandgreen's criticism of KNAPK's main board current time.

Sad

Lars Poulsen from Siumut, who is a member of Inatsisartut and is chairman of the Fisheries, Fishing and Agriculture Committee calls KNAPK's current situation sad.

- I hope that the new board will be able to listen to their background and continue to work to achieve positive results, he said.

He encourages them three fisheries organizations to initiate a constructive dialogue to ensure that the fishing industry receives the best possible treatment.
