Naalakkersuisut comes to the rescue of the commercial prisoners

Until and including 31 December 2025, persons with a commercial hunting permit can continue to hunt guillemots. This is due to a lack of income opportunities in certain management areas, according to the Greenland Government.

Commercial trappers can catch up to 20 guillemots per day until 31 December 2025. However, they may only sell the catch within their respective management areas.

So there is good news for commercial trappers and citizens who still want to buy guillemots.

The Greenland Government announces that they have decided to extend the hunting period for guillemots in zone 3 - which is from Qeqertarsuaq to Nanortalik for persons with a commercial hunting license.

The hunting period is extended to midnight on December 31, 2025.

The guillemot hunt can take place with the same restrictions as stated in the current executive order for persons with a commercial hunting license, which is 20 guillemots per hunting day.

Sales may only take place in their home administrative area.

- The extension of the hunting period is due to a lack of income opportunities in certain management areas, including fewer purchases of seal skins, Naalakkersuisut states in a press release.
