Choir concert out of the ordinary

It was almost unbelievable, but the community choir had only practiced together for four days before the beautiful choir concert was held.

Jensia Højgaard Dam, a musical talent, was one of the organizers behind a moving choir concert in the Community Hall in Nuuk last weekend.

The concert was the result of a four-day competition, where choir members, former choir members, or just people who love singing could participate.

It culminated in a concert where five choirs and musicians performed. The highlight was a song, written and composed by Nuka Alice, from the community choir, where all vocal ranges were presented in the most beautiful way.

It was a proud Filipino Nuuk Choir that received cheers and applause after the performance. There were broad smiles and shyness and some put their arm around their partner.

Then it was Arctic Echoes who took the stage. There were only three of them and they sounded fantastic throughout, but with their formidable sound and timbre, it would have blown the house back if they had the community choir behind them.

Afterwards, it was time to introduce the Filipino Nuuk Choir. They didn't even get to be introduced in Greenlandic because the applause started immediately. They also received a lot of applause after the first song, which was a Filipino bedtime song, and they also received huge applause after their last song, which was a popular national anthem.

Then came the Greenland String Quartet, who played “Underground Tango”. It got my brain going. At first it sounded like the intro to a thriller or horror movie, but a little later it turned into a woman in a tight red dress while an elegant man dances after her.

The joint choir with Jensia Højgaard Dam was then introduced again. Jensia looks at each choir member, it seems that she is making sure that they are ready. She jumps a little and then presses some keys and then the song starts. There is a very special interaction between the choir and Jensia throughout and as a spectator it is impressive to experience. There is an atmosphere of wanting to do the best possible from all parties. At one point, choir members move out and fill more of the floor, which on this occasion is the stage. It gives a full HD experience, just on sound. Fantastically beautiful.

The beautiful sounds continue with the choir, Ingiulik, who sings, among other things, “Fix You,” which brings tears to the eyes.

There was a standing ovation after the choir concert.

Afterwards, Nuuk organist Chiho Audibert takes the stage with her harp. She is a small woman who doesn't take up much space in the landscape, but her whole being and the music she brings out with the harp fill the entire Community Hall.

The joint choir ends the one-hour event with two songs. One more song written and composed by Nuka Alice, and Siiva Fleischer's "Silarsuaq takuiuk".
