On Saturday evening, the Bodil award was presented for the 79th time, and the entire Greenlandic film industry was among the award recipients.
The Greenlandic film industry was presented with this year's Special Bodil.
The film industry in Greenland received the special tribute because enthusiasts have worked purposefully to build a real Greenlandic film industry over decades, and because the industry in 2025 has "undergone a significant artistic and institutional development, not least with the establishment of the Greenlandic Film Institute."
In the justification for the award, the Danish Film Critics write, among other things:
- With this Special Bodil, the Danish Film Critics want to recognize this effort and support the fact that Greenlandic stories can in the future be told from within by Greenlanders themselves.
- At a time when Greenland as a nation is under unusual geopolitical pressure, it is imperative to remember and recognize the role that film culture plays in creating national identity and cohesion.
The Bodil award is presented by the Danish Film Critics Association and this year's ceremony took place at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen.
