The Sermersooq Circuit Court finished hearing all the witnesses and reviewing a lot of documentation in the Block 5 case on Wednesday afternoon. A good time to gather what we now know.

We know that on the morning of October 4, 2024, a 20-year-old man was found murdered in a storage room in Block 5 in Nuuk.

He was beaten many times, probably with a stone. It probably happened in the storage room next door, where there were traces of blood on mattresses and blood spatter.

The 42-year-old man charged in the case apparently used this second room to sleep at times. Prosecutors say his fingerprints were found in the victim's blood and his DNA was found at the crime scene.

But the 42-year-old man denies killing the young man, and the forensic tests do not link him to the suspected murder weapon. The defendant has chosen not to answer questions in court.

Both the deceased and the accused man were socially disadvantaged in Nuuk, but it is still uncertain to what extent they knew each other.

It has also emerged that the police had a number of other people in their sights before they arrested the now 42-year-old man on October 12, 2024. One of them is still charged in the case, but not indicted. This man is therefore not participating in the current trial either.

Rape case still ongoing

The 42-year-old defendant was also charged with assaulting a woman in July 2024. However, both witnesses in that case were unable to tell us anything about the incident.

However, the prosecutor has not dropped the charges. On Wednesday afternoon, she presented photos of the woman after she had been slapped or something similar. The defendant also denies guilt on this point.

We have also been informed that the accused man has previously committed a murder. This has not been further elaborated on at this time.

The case continues on Monday with a number of interesting things on the agenda. The defendant has not wanted to say anything in court, but has spoken out in previous hearings. The magistrates' court must decide whether the material may be used. There will possibly be several opinions on this.

We also need to hear why the prosecution wants the man sentenced to a psychiatric hospital in Denmark. He has also been here before these days in the district court.

Finally, we will see what the magistrates' court has to say about it all, either Monday or Tuesday next week.
