The Election Board, which is tasked with ensuring a correctly carried out Inatsisartut election, has published the approved election book, in which two incidents and a personal case in particular stand out.
In connection with the transport of ballots, the unfortunate incident occurred in Ilulissat and Aasiaat that the archive box containing ballots was lost.
- In Ilulissat, an archive box with blank and invalid ballots was lost during transport from the polling station to the municipality. The archive box was found by a citizen and handed in to the municipality. In this connection, the contents were reviewed and it was found that the candidate Anthon Frederiksen was crossed out on two of the ballots, as stated in the Election Board's election book, but where it is added:
- The difference in the two votes does not affect the outcome of the election.
The episode in Aasiaat
In Aasiaat, it was also in connection with the transport of ballots from a polling station to the municipal administration that an archive box with ballots was lost.
- Due to wind, the ballots were scattered over a larger area. All but three of the lost ballots were found. These were attributed to the candidate Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam, and had already been counted in the election results, the Election Board states, adding:
- Any deduction of the three votes will not have any influence on the outcome of the election.
The episodes occurred after the final count. Nevertheless, the Election Board finds "the handling of the ballots to be critical and emphasizes the responsibility of the election board and the poll manager in connection with the transport of the ballots".
Candidate was not eligible
Regarding the personal case, the Election Board states that candidate Vittus Jerimiassen was not eligible, as he has resided in Denmark for less than six months before election day, which is contrary to the rules.
- He cannot therefore be summoned as a deputy, and votes cast for him in practice function as party votes, the Election Board emphasizes, which states that he received six votes in the election.
Four complaints rejected
Four complaints were filed after the deadline for inclusion on the electoral list from persons who were temporarily residing outside Greenland.
- What all four had in common was that they had applied after the deadline, and therefore had received a rejection of their application for inclusion on the electoral list from Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, writes the Election Board and points out:
- Since the municipality had acted fully in accordance with the Election Act, the Election Board upheld the municipality's decisions.
