The elected member of the Avannaata Municipality council and former mayor, Palle Jerimiassen (D), is now resigning from the municipal council.
Palle Jerimiassen's request to resign as an elected official in Avannaata Municipality was approved by the Avannaata Municipality council at their meeting on Friday. Avannaata Municipality writes this on its website.
The meeting was held behind closed doors, and therefore Sermitsiaq cannot say how the votes and discussions on the former mayor's application to resign proceeded.
Reinstated on May 1
After being on sick leave from his position for about a year, Palle Jerimiassen became a member of the municipal council again on May 1 of this year. But now, just eight days later, his request to resign has been approved.
On Wednesday, Sermitsiaq asked the former mayor why he wanted to resign from his position. Here he referred to his health.
- When I start thinking about returning to politics, I can feel that my body still reacts and feels bad, my blood pressure rises again, and the stress I experienced before returns when I start thinking about returning to politics.
- My body is not ready, even if the person might want to, Palle Jerimiassen previously told Sermitsiaq.
Question: During the municipal election campaign last year, you told KNR that you wished you could become mayor again. Is the fact that you did not become mayor again a contributing factor in your decision to resign now?
- No. When we campaign, we have goals. But I also accept political changes. And that is not the reason, Palle Jerimiassen said on Wednesday.
Niels Erik Bro (D) became a member of the municipal council as a replacement for Palle Jerimiassen.
