Israel has attacked bridges and railways in Iran on Tuesday that are "used by the Revolutionary Guard," says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu said this in a video released from his office, according to the AFP news agency.

- Yesterday, our pilots destroyed transport planes and dozens of helicopters at an Iranian air base. Today, they hit the railways and bridges used by the Revolutionary Guard, he said, according to AFP.

Shortly before, unnamed Israeli security sources had told the Times of Israel newspaper that the Israeli military had bombed about ten important bridges and railway lines in Iran.

This was part of efforts to prevent the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps from moving weapons and other equipment around the country, the sources said.

The Israeli attack comes less than half a day before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump expires.

Trump has given Iran until 2 a.m. on Wednesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. If it is not opened, the United States will attack Iran's bridges and power plants, Trump has said.

On Tuesday, he wrote on his social media site, Truth Social, that an "entire civilization is going to die" tonight and will never return.

US Vice President J.D. Vance warns that the US still has "tools in the toolbox that we have not decided to use yet".

- The US president can decide to use them, and he will decide to use them if the Iranians do not change their behavior, Vance said, according to the Times of Israel, during a visit to Hungary on Tuesday.
