– Kalaallit, let's raise our flag on our mountain!

On Wednesday afternoon, Jukku Kielsen hoisted Erfalasorput in Ukkusissat near Nuuk. He did this in response to the development between our country and the United States and now encourages others to do the same, so that no one is in doubt as to where they have landed.

Jukku Kielsen and his companion reached the top of Ukkusissat just at the same time as the much talked about meeting between Greenland, Denmark and the USA ended.

They began the ascent on Wednesday at one o'clock, and after two hours of climbing they finally reached the top - just as the sun was coming out.

- When I raised our flag, I was close to tears in my eyes. When the sun came out and shone on us, it was incredibly beautiful. It was both moving and uplifting, Jukku said with a deep sigh from the top of Ukkusissat.

The sun's rays broke forth as Jukku and his companions raised the Greenlandic flag.

A dangerous route

We spoke to Jukku before he took the trip, and he told us that he had gotten the idea to raise the flag on Ukkusissat in Nuuk in response to the events between Greenland and the United States.

The route can be compared to Greenland's difficult situation.

The slippery terrain can be dangerous if you are not careful.

They had expected to spend an hour and a half on the trip, but after almost two hours they reached the top of the 722 meter high mountain. Along the way, they followed the events on the radio, each with their own headphones. When the meeting in the USA was over, their arrival took on a special meaning.

- When we stopped and started raising the flag, it all came together. It was incredibly calming, says Jukku.

Encourage others to do the same

Jukku Kielsen believes that it is time for us as a society to stand together when the US tries to take over our country.

- Now is the time to stand together, not to divide.

Jukku believes that raising our flag on different mountains is not only an act, but also shows visitors where they are. That is why he calls on his compatriots.

- My fellow Greenlanders, come now and raise the flag on our mountain. When visitors come, they shouldn't be in any doubt about where they are, Greenland of course, says Jukku on the way down from Ukkusissat.

Jukku says that the trip took longer than expected due to the difficult route.
