Kuupik V. Kleist wants to make a comeback in politics

Former chairman of Inuit Ataqatigiit and chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Kuupik V. Kleist, is running for the Folketing. He has stayed out of politics since 2015.

- The US pressure on our country is fierce. I believe that Greenland is not for sale and cannot be bought. However, Greenland must be led by the people who live in the country, he justifies his candidacy.

Kuupik V. Kleist has worked for the creation of the Self-Government Act and was at the head of Greenland's first Naalakkersuisut after the introduction of the Self-Government Act in 2009.

In his justification for running for the election now, he says that the population must remember that the Americans do not think the same as their president.

- As a population, we now need to defend ourselves, unity and cooperation with others. I am ready to cooperate with all parties in the Folketing as I usually do. We can only achieve good results by cooperating with others, says Kuupik V. Kleist.

Folketing candidate Ane Lone Bagger (S) would like to have knowledge from other countries with populations similar to Greenland's. This will provide an opportunity to improve health, she believes:

– Siumut will work in the Folketing to examine international models from countries with small and dispersed populations that can contribute to improving health examinations and treatment services in Greenland. The goal is to ensure earlier detection of diseases – especially lifestyle diseases and cancer – through the introduction of age-based health examinations.

Health must not become a question of where citizens live, Siumut emphasizes in her press release.

– In Greenland, the population lives dispersedly, and this creates special challenges for access to a well-equipped and specialized health service. Therefore, Siumut will strengthen efforts to ensure better and more equal health services for all citizens.

Ane Lone Bagger and Siumut will also work for better support for seriously ill patients. This means, among other things, that the Greenlandic Patient Home in Copenhagen must have a few more rooms and more Greenlandic food, the party states.

Siumut's Lars Poulsen questions Naalakkersuisut's commitment to their work after two members of Naalakkersuisut have chosen to run for the Folketing.

These are naalakkersuisoq for health and people with disabilities Anna Wangenheim (D) and naaakkersuisoq for, among other things, justice and raw materials Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA).

- I am disappointed by the latest developments, and therefore I believe it is time for a reassessment, writes Lars Poulsen in a post on Facebook.

- I have been confident but am now disappointed, as some naalakkersuisut are already proclaiming that they are willing to leave their posts for a mandate in the Folketing – of course with their democratic right, says Lars Poulsen.

Lars Poulsen, who is a member of Inatsisartut for Siumut, criticizes Naalakkersuisut's attitude towards the important responsibility and proclaims that he will listen to his supporters in relation to support for the coalition.

Since the coalition was formed less than a year ago, two Naalakkersuisut have quit. These are Maasi Pedersen, who was naalakkersuisut for children, youth and families, and Bentiaraq Ottosen, who was naalakkersuisut for the labor market and environment.

Siumut is part of the coalition and also has a naalakkersuisut.

Naaja H. Nathanielsen, IA, has announced her candidacy for Parliament on Monday evening.

- I have now decided to give it a shot. If successful, I have made a plan with my chairman, Múte B. Egede, for how I will stop in Naalakkersuisut without losing the work that has been started. If I do not get in, I will continue with my tasks in Naalakkersuisut with the same commitment, writes Naaja H. Nathanielsen in a short post.

She also states that she will seek leave from Inatsisartut if she is elected, as she does not support dual mandates.

In addition to Naaja H. Nathanielsen, IA has already presented four candidates for the Folketing. These are Pipaluk Lynge, Nivi Rosing, Kalistat Lund and Aqqalukkuluk Fontain.

Atassut plans to hold a press conference on Friday, March 13 at 3:00 PM to present their candidates for the Folketing and to present their party program.

Atassut currently has Bentiaraq Ottosen, Orla Joelsen and Malu Ostermann as candidates for the Folketing. It is unknown whether the party will run more candidates for the election on March 24.

Anna Wangenheim is now responding to criticism about her candidacy for the Folketing. In a post on the social media Facebook, she writes that she is still doing her job in the Department of Health and Disability:

- I am still doing my job. Nothing has changed. I carry out my tasks with the same commitment and in full accordance with the common goals of Naalakkersuisut, writes Anna Wangenheim.

The response comes after the chairman of Atassut, Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen, has criticized her candidacy for the Folketing despite her holding a heavy position in Naalakkersuisut with great responsibility.

- I do not have another job on the side. Running an election campaign is neither a position nor a source of income. It is a democratic right that all citizens have and is protected by our democracy. This also applies to politicians who already hold elected office and are still running for election. I am running because I want to work for our country and our people, Anna Wangenheim responds.

She has already stated that she will resign as Naalakkersuisoq if she is elected to the Folketing.

Juno Berthelsen, who has been a member of Inatsisartut for Naleraq since last year, is also running for the Folketing. Naleraq announced this on its Facebook page. This marks Naleraq's fourth candidate for the Folketing.

- I believe that Denmark's desire for ownership of Greenland has grown in the past year. And I cannot just sit back while the work towards independence stagnates and is not being processed by other parties, explains Juno Berthelsen in justification of her candidacy.

He is educated in social sciences and has several years of experience as a department head in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

- Our identity, culture and values ​​must be respected. I am running for the Folketing to strengthen and work for these values.

Naleraq has on Saturday presented their newest and youngest candidate in their list of candidates for the Folketing elections.

Oliver Bech has recently announced that he is leaving Siumut.

He has chosen to become a member of Naleraq for the party's work with Greenlandic values.

This is how the chairman of Atassut, Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen, begins his announcement after Demokraatit has presented their candidates for the Folketing.

Among the candidates is Anna Wangenheim, who is naalakkersuisoq for health and disability.

Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen justifies his criticism of Anna Wangenheim's candidacy by saying that Atassut joined the coalition a year ago with the view that the healthcare system must always be prioritized.

And he has a clear message to the coalition:

- We do not support the actions that naalakkersuisoq – who is now running for the Folketing – has taken, he writes.

Anna Wangenheim has explained to Sermitsiaq that she will resign as naalakkersuisoq if she is elected to the Folketing. There are elections to the Folketing on March 24.

Anna Wangenheim (D), who is naalakkersuisoq for health and people with disabilities, will resign from her post if she succeeds in being elected to the Folketing.

She tells Sermitsiaq:

- Being naalakkersuisoq is a full-time job, so if I am elected, I will of course leave my post.

The health service is a sore point, as it suffers from a shortage of staff and many short-term employees. According to Wangenheim, she is leaving the post with a sense of peace:

- I will do so with a sense of peace, because over the past year I have ensured that the health service is not completely in financial ruins.

- After all, we have done something about that in the coalition we are in and in cooperation with the Danish state, so I have a sense of peace about it.

She says it is important for her to come to the Folketing and fight for the continuation of the agreements that have been made in the health sector with the Danish government. Here, the Danish government has promised to contribute around 200 million DKK annually.

- There is a lot at stake in our welfare sector right now, says Anna Wangenheim.

She also emphasizes that she does not want a double mandate, and that she is also leaving her position in Inatsisartut.

- I will not run for a double mandate. I will focus fully on what I am elected to do.

Anna Wangenheim received the third most personal votes in the 2022 parliamentary election.

Lawyer Karina Zeeb, 38, is running for Parliament for Naleraq. She believes that the political work in the Parliament should be more noticeable for Greenland and the Greenlanders.

- We must ensure that decisions about our country are not made over our heads. And I am ready to take that responsibility. I am ready to continue the good work that Naleraq in the Folketing has carried out in the just concluded election period, and I am ready to provide good results for the tasks that have not yet been initiated, says Karina Zeeb in a press release.

Karina Zeeb says that she is ready to use her experience as a lawyer to ensure that the rights of Greenlanders are followed and respected.

Naleraq will present all its candidates on Monday during a press conference at 1:30 p.m.

Demokraatit is also ready with the party's election program and candidates for the general election.

Demokraatit chairman Jens-Frederik Nielsen will hold a press conference at the party's office today at 4:00 p.m., where he will present candidates and election program.

Demokraatit had a great election for the Inatsisartut and municipal councils in 2025, so it will be exciting to see if the party can also secure a mandate in the Folketing, and not to mention who the party puts on the ballot.

At the most recent general election in 2022, the party nominated Anna Wangenheim and Justus Hansen. Wangenheim got a great election with 3,482 votes.

However, it must be described as doubtful whether Anna Wangenheim will again be a find on the ballot, as she holds the position of naalakkersuisoq for health and people with disabilities.

Najannguaq Hegelund is running for the parliamentary election for Naleraq. Naleraq announces this in a press release.

Najannguaq Hegelund, 37 years old, is running for Naleraq to fight for the rights of Greenlandic citizens in Denmark.

Through her association work over the past 8 years, Najannguaq Hegelund has seen how Greenlandic parents can be misunderstood in the Danish system. In the Folketing, she will work together with parties to ensure that Greenlandic children are not forcibly removed from their parents unlawfully:

- My experience shows that in order to achieve results for Greenlanders, we must set clear demands, not give up and first and foremost put Greenlanders first instead of just blindly following Denmark, says Najannguaq Hegelund.

- I have repeatedly seen that Greenlanders are left alone. I want to emphasize strongly that everyone has legal certainty, this also applies to Greenlanders, she says.

On Monday, March 9, Naleraq will present their candidates to the Folketing. It will be at a press conference on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Orla Joelsen is known for her opposition to the US's desire to take over Greenland.

Now he is entering politics as a candidate for the general election.

Orla Joelsen writes on Facebook that he has decided to run for the general election for Atassut.

Orla Joelsen has been a prominent voice on the social media X, where he has been very active in arguing against President Donald Trump's desire to take over Greenland.

On X, Orla Joelsen has built up a large following with just over 86,000 followers.

In 2025, Orla Joelsen was the organizer behind a large demonstration that took place in Nuuk on March 15 against the USA.

Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Siumut has called a press conference.

At the press conference, the party will present Siumut's election program for the general election and all candidates running for Siumut.

The party has launched a number of candidates. These are Ane Lone Bagger, Najaaraq Møller, Ineqi Kielsen, Aka Hansen, Doris J. Jensen and Erika Nielsen Baadh.

On Friday afternoon, Inuit Ataqatigiit will reveal the party's election program and candidates for the Folketing.

The presentation will take place at Hotel Nordbo at 2 pm on Friday in Nuuk.

Since 2015, Aaja Chemnitz has managed to be elected to the Folketing for IA, but she has decided not to run again.

On Friday, it will be revealed who will try to carry on the legacy of Aaja Chemnitz, who received 4,296 votes in the last general election in 2022, corresponding to 22 percent of all votes cast.

The general election will be held on March 24, and apart from IA, Naleraq and Demokraatit have not presented candidates either.

Doris J. Jensen confirms to Sermitsiaq that she is running for the Folketing.

– Yes, I decided to run for the election last week, says Doris J. Jensen.

She is not new to the world of politics. She was a member of the Folketing from 2011 to 2015. She has also previously been a member of both Naalakkersuisut and Inatsisartut, but was not elected to Inatsisartut in the elections last year.

Today she sits on the municipal council of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, while Kim Kielsen is on leave from the municipal council.

Doris J. Jensen is a teacher at Atuarfik Hans Lynge for the oldest students, but she is sure that she has something to contribute if she is elected to the Folketing.

– While we are at the center of the world, it is important that there are people with knowledge and experience who stand for election. I am glad that there are also several new candidates running for Siumut. It is our hallmark at Siumut that we come up with both new and experienced candidates.

– The most important thing for me is that it has never been more important to defend our country, in a time when there is much unrest in the world.

There are now a total of six candidates for the Folketing from Siumut.

On the occasion of Aaja Chemnitz not running again in the parliamentary elections, Inuit Ataqatigiit is holding a coffee meeting for the politician on Thursday.

She is running for the Folketing to work for the Greenlandic population to have a better position than today.

Siumut is now presenting another candidate for the Folketing.

This concerns the political deputy chairman of the party, Ineqi Kielsen.

Ineqi Kielsen writes in a press release about his candidacy that he wants to be a clear voice in the Folketing:

- If Greenland is to move responsibly towards greater self-determination, it requires that we take responsibility in the institutions where power currently lies.

Ineqi Kielsen also ran for the 2019 general election, where he received 805 votes.

The substitute for Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam (N) in the last general election will not run again when the general election is on March 24.

Elvira Kûitse entered the Folketing in the fall of 2025, when Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam took leave to attend to her political work in Inatsisartut. This made her the first East Greenlander in the Folketing.

Kûitse received 120 personal votes in the 2022 parliamentary election. Like Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam, she ran for Siumut at the time, but later switched to Naleraq.

Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam ran for the 2022 parliamentary election for Siumut. She received a landslide election with a total of 6,670 votes, corresponding to 33 percent of all votes cast in the election.

In February 2025, leading up to the election for Inatsisartut, she switched parties from Siumut to Naleraq.
