Narsarsuaq is facing major changes, as the village's airport will soon be converted into a heliport in connection with the opening of the new airport in Qaqortoq.
Mayor of Kujalleq Municipality, Malene Vahl Rasmussen (D), is now calling on Naalakkersuisut to step up and continue working on issues that are outside the municipality's area of responsibility:
- When the airport closes, Greenland Airports will only be responsible for operating the heliport. The hotel will be abandoned, and it is still unknown what it will be used for in the future, the mayor says in a press release and continues:
- If plans are now to be made for housing, service contracts, the health service and other public enterprises with a public service obligation, Naalakkersuisoq must act quickly now. It is about the lives of citizens and their families.
Strong call
According to the mayor, from the beginning of the new year the municipality has taken over responsibility for security, road maintenance, snow removal and sewage as municipal tasks. A decision on the future of the daycare center and school will be made this summer based on the number of users:
- As long as we do not know how the conditions outside the municipality's area of responsibility will be handled in the future, we cannot continue with our own efforts. Therefore, I would strongly encourage Naalakkersuisoq Aqqaluaq B. Egede to begin work within his area of responsibility now, so that Narsarsuaq's future can be secured for the citizens waiting, says Malene Vahl Rasmussen.
Sermitsiaq is working to get a comment on the criticism from naalakkersuisoq.
