2026 GENERAL ELECTION

Múte B. Egede: - Difficult to cooperate with someone who behaves like the Danish People's Party

Inuit Ataqatigiit will not point to a favorite for Denmark's next prime minister. The party will first see what policy the parties will pursue for Greenland. But the party's leader Múte B. Egede says that it is difficult to support a government led by the Danish People's Party.

Múte B. Egede presented the Inuit Ataqatigiit parliamentary election campaign and candidates on Friday.

Who will become prime minister in Denmark will be shown by the election to the Folketing on March 24. The chairman of Inuit Ataqatigiit, Múte B. Egede, has not overlooked that the members elected to the Folketing from Greenland can be decisive for a majority.

- Therefore, it is also risky to make a statement in advance. We will first see what direction the future government-formers want for our country, he says.

But the party has no doubts about their demands if they are to support a future government and prime minister.

– It will be a requirement that Greenland is no longer ranked second in some areas, but must be included as number one and thus become a full and equal partner, says Múte B. Egede.

Will have difficulty supporting the Danish People's Party

Although they would like to see the election results first, they have difficulty supporting a specific party.

- Without excluding any partners, we are not immediately in a position to support a government led by the Danish People's Party, says Múte B. Egede.

The Danish People's Party does not support Greenland's desire for independence, and the party is often not reluctant with their statements about Greenland. Therefore, it is difficult to see them as supporters, says the party chairman.

– We know that they often express themselves against our desire for independence and set barriers to our visions of how Greenland should be included as an equal partner, says Múte B. Egede.
