The construction of a new kindergarten in Qeqertarsuaq had previously been a goal for the elected officials. But it will now not be a reality after the local contractor has made a different recommendation.

- After inspecting the area, Sannassisoq aps assesses that the area that had been designated as suitable is not suitable for construction.

- This is because the foundation at this location will be flooded at high tide, which is why it will be difficult even in connection with the construction of the concrete foundation, the minutes of the meeting state.

The existing one must be renovated

It was therefore decided that the current kindergarten should be renovated instead, when a new one is not to be built.

- Sannassisoq recommends that the older part of the existing daycare center be demolished, and the newer part be retained, and that renovation of this be carried out at the same time as the expansion.

- The height to the ceiling in the newer part is not wrong in relation to the expansion. In addition, there are already connection pipes for sewage and water. The concrete foundation, which is already there, can also be reused, the municipal officials wrote to the elected representatives.

It was also decided that the 16.3 million kroner, which would otherwise have been used for the construction of a new kindergarten, should instead be used for the renovation.
