On April 16, 2026, Qaqortoq got a long-awaited airport with seven kilometers of new airport road. But as many drivers have found out since the airport opened, there is a lack of mobile coverage on the new route.

The signal drops out at the beginning of the stretch, and the problem continues for several kilometers until you get closer to the airport. Tusass says it will be like this for a while yet.

– It is correct that there is no coverage along the stretch from Qaqortoq to the airport. The plan is definitely to establish a mobile site that ensures coverage here during 2026, says Communications Manager Maasi Brøns Chemnitz.

Tusass is initially busy with other efforts in the area.

– The priority has been and continues to be to ensure stable and improved coverage inside the city, followed by coverage of the airport buildings. The next step will be to establish coverage along the airport road, the communications manager explains.

The official name of the airport road is Henrik Lundip Aqqutaa, named after the former mayor Henrik Lund. Access has been restricted for ordinary drivers while the airport was still under construction.
