In 2026 and for three years thereafter, legally fatherless children in both Greenland and Denmark will have access to free legal advice, support for conducting paternity cases, offers of therapy courses and the opportunity to participate in local information and guidance meetings.
This is stated by the Government of Greenland in a press release.
The help comes as a result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Children, Youth, Families and Home Affairs, the High Commissioner in Greenland and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing in Denmark.
The authorities have launched a new project period that will ensure that help will once again be available to legally fatherless citizens in both Greenland and Denmark.
Naalakkersuisoq Nivi Olsen (D) hopes that the help will create more security and give more legally fatherless people the opportunity to find peace and direction in their own history:
- For many legally fatherless people, it has been a long and vulnerable road to be alone with questions about identity and belonging.
- Therefore, it means a lot that we can now offer help through the public authorities, so that no one has to deal with these challenges without support, says Nivi Olsen.
In the near future, guidance and information meetings will be held in selected cities - see more on the Naalakkersuisut website.
