Today's transatlantic flight from Billund to Nuuk has been diverted due to the strong winds in Nuuk.

Air Greenland stated on its website on Wednesday morning that the flight from Billund could risk having to fly to Kangerlussuaq due to the conditions in Nuuk.

Data on the website Flightradar24 shows that the plane was heading towards Kangerlussuaq, then it turned around and flew towards Nuuk, after which it flew back towards Kangerlussuaq, where it landed.

- In the event that the plane has to land in Kangerlussuaq, travelers who were supposed to fly from Nuuk will expect to receive a new itinerary, writes Air Greenland.

Update: All flights on the West Coast are canceled

Air Greenland has provided an update on the situation at 12:30.

The weather conditions mean that the company has been forced to cancel all flights on the West Coast for the rest of the day.

It is also stated that the passengers from Billund, who were flown to Kangerlussuaq, will be flown back to Billund.

- This is due to a full traffic schedule tomorrow and that the Dash8 planes in Nuuk are still in the hangar. The Dash8 flight from Ilulissat also had to abandon landing in Aasiaat and returned to its starting point earlier today, writes Air Greenland about the challenges.

Air Greenland is now starting a major effort to make new travel plans for the many affected travelers.

- We ask them to be patient while this work is underway, the company writes.
