The coalition D, IA, S and A has collapsed. Siumut's announcement means that Naalakkersuisut will lose Vivian Motzfeldt, who has until today held the heavy post – Foreign Affairs.
Vivian Motzfeldt herself is surprised and disappointed that her party is no longer in the coalition:
- The time is not right to show party colors and create dividing lines. It is more important than ever to stand together for Greenland. I do not agree with the way the situation is being handled, Vivian Motzfeldt (S) tells Sermitsiaq after Siumut's withdrawal from the coalition.
- I must consider my next move and what I want. You must be able to see yourself in the politics your party is pursuing, she tells Sermitsiaq.
Politics must be conducted for society
Vivian Motzfeldt makes no secret of the fact that she prefers politics to be used to promote and benefit society's interests. As Greenland's Minister for Foreign Affairs, she has led Greenland into important meetings with, among others, J. D. Vance on the issue of relations between the USA, Greenland and Denmark.
- I only found out that I had to leave the coalition this morning. I must of course respect the decisions of the executive committee, but no one should be in any doubt that I have a job to do for the security of the citizens and the country, she says.
When asked what she wants now, Vivian Motzfeldt has no doubts:
- I believe that the strength we have together is not being used optimally right now. I have a lot to consider now, because you need to be able to reflect on the policy you work with, and whether the party's actions match your own values. I have to say that the actions do not match my values right now, says Vivian Motzfeldt.
Kim Kielsen: We disagree on that point
Siumut is leaving the coalition due to the controversy surrounding two members of the Greenlanders' Parliament, Anna Wangenheim and Naaja Nathanielsen, who are running for the Folketing election. Both have announced in advance that they will leave their positions if they are elected to the Folketing as they should. The Greenlanders' Parliament cannot have other positions or professions during their term as Greenlanders' Parliament without approval from the Election Board.
The chairman of Inatsisartut also does not hide the fact that Siumut's group disagrees on whether two members of the Greenlanders' National Assembly's candidacy for the Folketing is in violation of the law.
- We do not agree on that issue. No one should doubt that I would have reacted strongly if there had been a violation of the law in relation to members of the Greenlanders' National Assembly running for another election. However, I would like to emphasize that there has been no violation of the law, says Kim Kielsen to Sermitsiaq.
Kim Kielsen emphasizes that the entire Naalakkersuisut has a major task in building trust and credibility again after two members of Naalakkersuisut have chosen to run for Parliament.
When asked if he is considering leaving Siumut, Kim Kielsen says that he continues to reflect on the party's principles:
- But I must admit that I have been very shaken by the development of the situation since yesterday, he says without elaborating.
