To daily Pilutaq Lundblad is a producer at Greenland's National Theater and a rapper and singer in two of Greenland's biggest bands, Toornat and Sauwestari. But next to that music, he has embarked on a completely new challenge: to run every day as a hero years – a discipline that has changed both his body, mind and perspective on life.

From the music scene for daily miles

Pilot Lundblad, one of Greenland's most significant rappers and singers, has been for years known for his incomparable energy on stage and his ability to create music, that hits the listeners. But now he has thrown himself into a completely new challenge - one, which is not about chords or words, but about endurance, discipline and personal growth. He has set out to run every day for a whole year. You could believe that the project started quietly with short trips in the local area. But the reality is different. In August, Pilutaq made a decision that quickly becomes something much more ambitious.

Pilutaq's daily steps in his running shoes become a symbol of discipline, transformation and new habits.

- My friend's son, who I was also close to, committed suicide. I felt that I had to do something. So when I saw that the KangNu Running Race was only 10 days later, I decided to implement it, says Pilutaq Lundblad.

KangNu Running Race is far from an ordinary race. It's an ultra race of 56 km, there challenges participants with steep, hilly terrain and extreme conditions. Pilot when far from getting trained for the race. Still, he manages to persuade his comrade: They must carry it out together, whatever the cost. Because they stay ran not an exercise project, but a challenge that almost requires stubbornness supernatural level.

- I completed, but it was a pure nightmare. I sprained my ankle along the way, ran wrong and got cramps. And as if that wasn't enough, I started eventually hallucinating. I was convinced a polar bear was running by mine side. But I refused to stop. I had to finish, Pilutaq says wryly smile.

When he finally crosses the finish line, half swaying and exhausted, he gives himself up a promise: Never run again. Even if he is insanely busy, he only wants to go. But reality will soon show that that decision will not be allowed to stick for a long time.

He will run every day for a year

Then Pilutaq returns home to his family and his two children after the ultra race, is the body is tender, and the thoughts are running in top gear. He sits down, feels the silence after the many kilometers and let the experience sink in.

The runs on the trails give Pilutaq peace of mind and energy for both music and family life.

- I just thought: Wow, what an experience. I challenged myself on one pretty brutal way. It was exciting physically – but especially mentally, explains Pilutaq.

Instead to say goodbye to running, something unexpected happens. The experience turns you on curiosity that will not let him go. At home in the living room, he starts searching YouTube, and soon he stumbles upon an ultra runner who is on day 1000 in one project where he runs every single day.

- It struck me immediately: That, I have to do that too. The only question was for how long. A year seemed like a suitable challenge, says Pilutaq.

The plan is simple: at least 1.5 kilometers a day. Some weeks that means 12 kilometers in total, others he ends up running 60 kilometers. It depends on time, mood and terrain. Today he is on day 79 – and the race is already changing him.

Run as a new addiction

Pilot describes running as a meditative practice where every turn becomes an opportunity for reflection, creativity and peace of mind.

- I listen to music, often just some house rhythms without vocals. If there is text on, I quickly become overstimulated. I need the rhythm, don't I the words, in order to collect the thoughts and organize them. Running gives me a huge feeling of freedom and peace in myself, and I come home with much more energy, Pilutaq says calmly.

Each trip becomes a respite, a mental break, and eventually also a addiction of the good kind.

Pilot is a hip-hop artist and used to an environment that is often raw and rough - far from it the calm, meditative world he now moves into.

- In hip-hop, our text universe is often dark, full of drugs, crime and alcohol. Therefore, it means a lot to me that the young people can see that you can be a hip hopper and at the same time live a healthy and stable life, Pilutaq adds a weight and sincerity that makes one feel that there is something honest heart behind the words.

For Pilutaq, it is not only about music and image, but about showing that it is possible to break patterns, take responsibility for one's life and find a way to balance and stability.

Pilutaq shows the way as an honest role model.

- I have stood still for many years, says Pilutaq and takes a deep breath, which whether he collects his words before continuing.

- I have been addicted to hash and smoke every day for twenty years. I'm used to do something routine and controlled, but previously it was something that drained me. Now I apply the same discipline to something that gives me energy: to run every day. I could smoke every day, so I must also be able to run every day. I want to show that the old habits can be turned into something that gives energy, explains Pilutaq.

With one, it makes sense why the otherwise tough hip-hop artist stands up and shows, that health, balance and commitment can go hand in hand with passion – and that yourself a former addiction can be turned into something positive.

And precisely the community at a distance is the idea behind his next goal: On day 100 he will collect as many as possible to run around the whole of Greenland at the same time. Not an official race, but a shared moment where everyone takes a step forward the door.
