At Nuummi Eqaarsaartartut - Nuuk Gymnastics brings together children from the years 2020 to 2024 for a festive end to the year, where movement, play and community are in focus. The end of Christmas for the little ones offers a wonderful mix of fun activities and the warm traditions of Christmas. It is a day when both children and adults can experience the joy of being together - and at the same time get lots of energy to get ahead in the Christmas season.
One celebration for the little ones
The Christmas finale is for the smallest members of Nuuk Gymnastik, they pre-school children who do not yet go to school. The chairman of Nuuk Gymnastics, Line Poulsen, says that the end of Christmas is about much more than just celebrations and activities. It's a day that brings the whole family together - both children and parents.
- The end of Christmas with a Christmas tree, Santa Claus and a bag of goodies is for all of us preschool children. Our members who go to school would rather have plain training sprinkled with a little Christmas spirit, says Line.
Besides being a fun and festive end to the year, the end of Christmas also has an important social significance for both the children and their families. Line Poulsen emphasizes that the end of Christmas provides an opportunity to strengthen the community across age groups.
- Our association sticks to the end of Christmas and Lent for the little ones. That gives us the opportunity to connect gymnastics with the community among everyone members, and precisely that unity is important to us, says Line.
Last year, Nuuk Gymnastik had to hold the end of Christmas in small groups on the ground of limited space in the USK gymnasium. That is why it is extra special to be able to gather everyone for a big party this year in the hall at Atuarfik Hans Lynge. It is clear that both young and old participate in the festivities with greatness excitement. The children are wearing Santa hats, Christmas jumpers and beaming smiles, while several parents have gone all in with festive outfits and matching Christmas accessories. One of the many little ones who have their mum and dad with them in their beautiful, matching outfits Christmas sweaters, is the 3-year-old Victoria. With a big smile on his face it sounds from the little happy girl:
- End of Christmas is just the best.
Santa Claus make a magical entrance
Of course, Santa Claus is part of the Christmas ending, and it's a big one event for both children and adults. If it really is the real Santa Claus, remains a Christmas mystery, but one thing is certain: the smiling and hopeful children around the hall can only mean one thing – Christmas has come to Nuuk Gymnastics.
- We can reveal as much as Santa Claus has put Nuuk Gymnastics on his calendar in December. Whether it is the real Santa Claus is up to the children themselves, says Line and smiling before continuing.
- We call Santa Claus together, and he usually hears us. In the first meeting between Santa Claus and the children, the magic is usually completely electric, he says she.
And Line is right. After a few laps around the Christmas tree, the children call loudly at Santa Claus, and after three tries he hears them. He steps into the door - in red and white. The children cheer, stare, and some run into his arms, while others looking up in astonishment. It is a magical moment that emphasizes that Christmas is quite special for the very little ones. Santa and his wonderful helper elf instructors hand out goodie bags for the little gymnasts, and the hall is filled with smiling and energetic children enjoying their Christmas foam, fig sticks and tangerines. The parents laugh and talk with their children, while the joy of Christmas spreads like a warm, familiar feeling throughout the hall.
Joy of movement provides lasting memories
For Nuuk Gymnastics, the joy of movement is something that extends far beyond Christmas time. It's about creating an environment where children not only get exercise, but also strengthens their well-being and self-confidence.
- For us at Nuummi Eqaarsaartartut – Nuuk Gymnastics, it's all about the joy of movement much more than exercise. It is a way of strengthening children's well-being, community and confidence on. We would like to create a setting where children can experience that gymnastics and movement is fun and meaningful, and where they also make good memories together with others. In this way, the joy of movement becomes a gift that goes far over Christmas, says the chairman.
And what do you hope the children get out of the end of Christmas? The answer from Line Poulsen sounds clear.
- Good memories and extra Christmas spirit. Your beloved gym seasoned with Christmas – what more could you want, laughs the chairman.
One fellowship with joy
For Nuuk Gymnastics, the end of Christmas is not only about celebrating Christmas - it is also about creating a strong community where the children see both each other and their coaches as role models.
- We are proud of the community we build in the association. The families with children meet at crossroads, and the children see our assistant coaches as good role models. Gymnastics with us is more than training – it is community, role models and joy, says Line Poulsen.
Although the end of Christmas at Nuuk Gymnastik offers fun activities and festive celebration, it is the community and the joy of movement that sets the framework for this magical day. It is a day when the first steps towards an asset lifestyle might be taken – the moment a child looks up with big, wondering eyes at the man with the white beard, while father gently holds his hand. It is here, in the glittering Christmas season, that dreams and possibilities meet, and the children begins to understand that the joy of moving and being part of a community is something that can last far beyond this magical December day. A gift there lasts well into the new year.
