Nyborghallerne laid floor for the last training session of the year for the Greenlandic handball players who live in Denmark.

In 2025 there has been gatherings in Vissenbjerg, in Fredericia, in GOG in Gudme and then on Saturday in Nyborg. The collections started last year.

24 Boys and girls had come to Nyborg and the three coaches Kathrine Mikkelsen, Bent Møller and Rasmus Larsen were again responsible for the training. Like there were always satisfied parents in the stands. Last point on the meeting was a boys training match against a good team from EVN Efterskolen at Nyborg. In such a training match, the result is of little importance.

That however, the Greenlandic boys managed to win after initial problems home. The after-school team is coached by former national team and GOG player Keld Wilhelmsen. For the Greenlandic boys, the Nyborghallerne this Saturday was something of a kind home ground with Greenlandic music during the warm-up.

Large dreams

Many of the girls and boys dream big dreams. They want something with their sport, and ensures that the training is as optimal as is now possible. And there is great satisfaction that TAAK Timersoqatigiiffiit Assamik Arsartartut Katuffiat organizes the gatherings.

We spoke to 15-year-old Maja Spaanhede and 18-year-old Lars Jeremiassen.

Maja was born in Ilulissat. Moved to Nuuk when she was eight, and to Denmark in 2022. Plays in TIK Vallensbæk on the U15 team in the best division in Zealand. Maja is really happy for his club and for his coach.

- Me does normal handball training three times a week. Morning training a single day week and of course I do strength training, says Maja, who is also just in between the handball training gets time to play football.

Experienced coaches with a total of 216 international matches. Bent Møller 31 for Denmark, Rasmus Larsen 110 for Greenland and Keld Vilhelmsen 75 for Denmark.

The training sessions with the other Greenlandic players is something very special.

- That is so perfect to see other Greenlanders, speak Greenlandic and play against and with someone I know from Greenland.

18-Year-olds Lars Jeremiassen is from Nuuk. Born in Qaqortoq. In Nuuk, Lars represented GSS. Lars has been at sports college in Ikast since August, and plays in the club Ikast FS on the U19 team in the 1st Division. It is the first time that Lars has participated the talent training.

- That It's great to be here, Lars begins our conversation.

- Me trains a lot in Ikast. Club training three times a week. Twice at school and then of course strength training.

Lars seems that there is quite a lot of difference between the training in Ikast and the way you training at GSS.

- That is harder in Denmark. More physical and many tough duels, where many are needed strength if you have to cope. In GSS we trained a lot more systems.

Lars hope that he will be so good that there are clubs that could be interested to get him on their team.

- Me dreams of becoming a professional handball player, and likes to be outside Denmark. At first maybe the Faroe Islands, Lars ends our little conversation.

There are four Greenlandic students at the Sports Academy in Ikast. All four were involved Nyborg.

The project continues

There will also be training sessions for the Greenlandic handball talents in 2026, which for some reason is in Denmark.
