Anton M. Petersen, founder and organizer of Tour de Nuuk, is behind one of the capital's most outstanding exercise races, where participants are challenged through seven stages in seven days in a row.
The event is held twice a year – in spring and autumn – and over the years has gathered a large and loyal running community in Nuuk.
Tour de Nuuk has today become a permanent part of the city's exercise life, but the idea arose back in 2011, when Anton M. Petersen himself missed a community for runners. That is why he took the initiative to create a meeting point for both experienced and new runners.
– Creating a community like TDN did not happen overnight. It has taken time to build such a large community. But today, fortunately, everyone knows TDN, he says enthusiastically.
According to Anton M. Petersen, the average number of participants is around 80 people every day throughout all seven stages. This is evidence of great support, even when the weather turns out to be harsh.
The Tour de Nuuk is known for the fact that the races are carried out regardless of the conditions. That is why participants also turn up, even when it is windy, rainy or stormy.
“The runners know that others will come regardless of the weather,” says the organizer.
A special feature of the Tour de Nuuk is that the event is broad-based. Children, young people, adults and the elderly participate here, and the pace is not the decisive factor.
“Our oldest runner, who completed all stages, was 77 years old. At the same time, we also had a lot of children participating this week. So a community for everyone,” says Anton M. Petersen proudly.
The race has left a clear mark on the cityscape of Nuuk, where the many participants have walked the streets wearing yellow vests day after day.
The striking colors have made the Tour de Nuuk visible to the city's citizens throughout the race week.
After a week with seven stages in seven days, the organizer, Anton M. Petersen, can therefore look back on a well-run Tour de Nuuk, which once again brought together runners of all ages, levels and experience in the capital.
