The new job

Sermitsiaq has called the director, who is trained Master of Science in Merchandising with a specialization in strategy and management, and asked him to elaborate on his surprising exit from the hotel empire.
- With 365 working days a year, the hotel and restaurant industry is a really tough one place to be boss. I am always available for work.
- Me starts at eight o'clock in the morning and is usually home by five-thirty six o'clock, he explains.
- Me just went to the old man, my dad, and said I should try something new. That he was completely on board. So I would definitely say that it is the family that wins career in the family business.
- Right Many people I have met over the years have told me that when I have children, must I remember to live in the present and enjoy my children. Instead of spending too much many hours at work, says the deputy director.
How would you describe yourself?
- Me is that modern man who wants to live in the present and be something for my family, yes be something for my children.
- Me takes, for example, both the diapers and the dishes at home and generally wants to to be with my family as much as possible, says Christian Loiborg Seaweed.
And he continues:
- Right suddenly you stand there and have been retired without having been together very much with your children. I have come to the realization that I cannot be a superhuman, who both spend a lot of time on my children and work in the hotel business, he says.
Together with his wife, Amanda Loiborg Tang, who he became married in 2019, he has two minor children.
- We just had child number two. For me, it's just absolutely fantastic on the days when I have the opportunity to go home from work at four in the afternoon and the kids are still fresh, says the director.
Did you get a new job?
- Yes, I have that. It's healthy to try to get out and try something different and get new ones competencies. From 1 February next year, I have a new job as sales manager in commercial department in Tusass. It is a post just below the top management, says Christian Loiborg Tang.
Profit of almost DKK 23 million
He does not hide the fact that he has had it in 2024/25 "Fucking fun" as deputy director.
- We have been really busy and pushed to the limit. It has been something of a journey for me and sad to step down from hotel management.
- But I feel good in my stomach. I have chosen what is important to me. It is the family, and we feel so good, he says.
HHE's main activity is hotel and restaurant operation, and in 2024, this has included the operation of Hotel Hans Egede and the low-cost hotel HHE Express, which Hotel Hans Egede A/S rents from Polarbo ApS.
In addition, the company rents the property Samuel Kleinschmidtvej 15, where apartments are rented out as furnished hotel apartments and vacant apartments under the name Nuuk Hotel Apartments by HHE.
It was Helge Tang and the now deceased Carl Juhl who in the end of the 1979s founded and then built up Hotel Hans Egede A/S and a large property portfolio in other companies. The two came to Greenland in due time as journeyman painter.
The four-star Hotel Hans Egede is Greenland's largest hotel with, among other things, 156 hotel rooms, two restaurants and a conference center with 20 meeting and banquet rooms.
The three-star low-cost hotel, also called a budget hotel, HHE Express, has 108 rooms.
Helge and Christian Tang each own half of Hotel Hans Egede A/S. Both sit on the board of the company, which last year had one profit after tax of DKK 15 million.
Equity was DKK 22.7 million. This year is expected higher activity, a profit before tax of DKK 22-28 million.
- I'm leaving not Hotel Hans Egede A/S, I will continue on the board and keep my ownership stake in the company. I'm still in town, he says.
Might return
Could you see yourself in a top job in the family business?
- That you could well.
- Min father is still at full speed. I will soon be stepping down from Hotel Hans Egede's management, but is available to the group as a board member. I will not deny that In a few years, I will return to a managerial job in the family-owned hotel business, says Christian Loiborg Tang.
Hotel chairman and entrepreneur Helge Tang is former described as a true veteran who has been part of the industry for four to five decades, and do not need to look up some places to find out how tourism has developed in Greenland since the 1970s.
Tang senior has plans to build a new hotel next to it new international airport in Nuuk.
One day in the future it is not unlikely that Christian Loiborg Tang is at the helm of three hotels in the Hotel Hans Egede empire and the family business.
