In general, the tourism industry is also a lot positive after the first year with the new airport in Nuuk.

The Chairman of the Industry Committee for Hotel, Restoration and Tourism under Greenland's Business, Helge Tang, says Sermitsiaq:

"The airport has in its first year - despite childhood diseases – shown great potential. The international airport in Nuuk has brought about a substantial boost in tourism in Nuuk. Therefore there is also happy that a date has been set for the airport in South Greenland, and the industry is also watching until the one in Ilulissat, so that larger parts of the country can benefit from the growth that can be created by developing businesses within the tourism industry".

He is also chairman of the HHE group's board of directors and informs Sermitsiaq that they are well advanced with a new hotel in the airport area where you have won the construction site directly opposite the terminals. The group is in the process of planning the construction of a hotel with 120 rooms.

The tourists are now important

For Hotel Hans Egede A/S, consisting of the hotels Hotel Hans Egede, HHE Express and Nuuk Hotel Apartments have it first year with the new airport was historic. Where the city and hotel industry formerly primarily lived by business travelers, has the past 12 months were the first in which tourism has really made up a significant part of the guest base, the group estimates.

- When the airport opened, that changed the reality in Nuuk. For the first time ever, we had a stable, measurable and commercially strong tourism season, also over the summer, where we previously had the absolute off-season. It is a completely new chapter for the city, says Christian Loiborg Tang, deputy director of Hotel Hans Egede A/S.

Christian Loiborg Tang: - We see a positive picture for the coming year. With direct access to Nuuk without stopovers, we have become far more attractive to both holidaymakers, meeting tourism and international operators

Both hotels have experienced significant increase in bookings throughout the year, and the trend continues into 2026. Already now the advance reservations are higher than the Hotel Hans Egede hotels ever before looked at this time of the year towards the new tourist season, says the hotel chain.

- We see a positive picture for it coming year. With direct access to Nuuk without stopovers, we have stayed far more attractive for holidaymakers, meeting tourism and international travelers alike operators. It gives us a completely new business basis and a new faith in the city tourism potential, says Christian Loiborg Tang.

Hotel Hans Egede A/S continues to expect growth as the route network is expanded, and capacity, experiences and product development in Nuuk is included.

The opening of the airport is still being assessed as one of the biggest single changes for Greenland's tourism and business history in recent times.

- We want at the same time to thank everyone who has contributed to realizing and running the new one airport – from planning and construction to daily operations, and the good colleagues in the tourism industry. The past year has been a turning point for Nuuk, and for us we are looking forward to what's next, states Christian Loiborg Tang, who also stops as deputy director of HHE at the end of the year, which you can also read more about in this newspaper.
