Former mayor wants to extend his leave due to his work in tourism

Palle Jerimiassen (D), former mayor of Avannaata Municipality, has asked to extend his leave from the municipal council by six months.

- I would like to help improve tourism, says Palle Jerimiassen.

Since the municipal elections last year, he has had a year's leave from his elected office until May 1, 2026 due to his health.

He has now announced that he will extend his leave by six months until October 1, 2026 due to his business.

- I would like to use my skills to improve tourism by creating new experiences through my business, says Palle Jerimiassen in a press release.

Palle Jerimiassen is the owner of "Ilulissat Event" and explains that he wanted to take a leave of absence from his political work to help his company prepare for the new airport in Ilulissat.

Has respect for his constituents

You are about to take a leave of absence from the municipal council for a year and a half. What do you want to say to your constituents?

- First of all, my constituents know why I have taken a leave of absence. I am now in the process of starting a business after my illness, and I also know that this means that my business does not allow room for all my political commitments, Palle Jerimiassen tells Sermitsiaq.

Out of respect for his constituents, he says that he wants to have his leave extended.

- It is better for the constituents if there is a full-time representative on the municipal council. I will not be a member of the municipal council if I do not have time. If I want to be on the municipal council, I have to be on it full-time, says Palle Jerimiassen.

At the next municipal council meeting in Avannaata Kommunia, a decision will be made on Palle Jerimiassen's application for an extension of his leave.

Niels Erik Bro (D) received 73 personal votes and became the alternate for Palle Jerimiassen (D), who received 104 personal votes and was elected to the municipal council in Avannaata Kommunia.
