There is clear support for Greenland and Denmark in the conflict with the US, a new global survey shows. This is reported by Berlingske Tidende.

In 85 out of 98 countries, a majority of the population mostly agrees with Greenland and Denmark, while in 11 countries the distribution is so even that it falls below the statistical uncertainty of 4.7 percent.

Only in two countries - Israel and the Dominican Republic - does a majority support the US.

This is shown by a democracy survey conducted by the Democracy Perception Index, which has been prepared by Nira Data and the organization Alliance of Democracies, writes Berlingske.

Also support for Ukraine

The democracy survey was conducted ahead of this year's Copenhagen Democracy Summit, which will be held on Tuesday.

It is based on responses from more than 94,000 people in 98 different countries. This is the ninth time the survey has been conducted.

However, this is the first time that people have been asked who they agree with most in a number of specific conflicts.

When it comes to the war in Ukraine, the population of 55 countries says that they agree most with Ukraine, while in 30 countries they agree most with Russia.

Many countries can put themselves in Denmark and Greenland's shoes

When a significantly larger proportion of countries support Greenland and Denmark, it is because it is easier for most countries to put themselves in Denmark and Greenland's shoes.

- It is seen as an example of a great power that tries to use force to get its way, says Anders Wivel, who researches power politics and small states in international politics, to Berlingske.

Greenland is of great strategic importance to Denmark and the United States due to its location in the Arctic.

In 2019, the US president expressed his desire for the first time to have Greenland in American hands.

Both Denmark and Greenland have rejected the idea. But that has not changed Trump's mind. The dispute has led to a diplomatic crisis, in which Trump has threatened to use force to take over Greenland.

However, the EU countries have stood together on the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland.
