The case is confirmed by the municipality's municipal director, Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen.

On April 24, 2026, the case regarding fines in connection with the tax case is scheduled in the Court of Greenland, Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen informs Sermitsiaq.

Among other things, witnesses have been summoned in the case.

The former mayor, Stine Egede (IA), has previously regretted the situation.

– On behalf of the Finance Committee and the municipal council, I would like to apologize for the fact that the taxes were not paid on time, she said, when it became known that the municipality had not paid in 2024.

Citizens are feeling the economic situation

The lack of payment and the mess in the economy have had major economic consequences for the municipality. Citizens must now pay 1 percent more in municipal taxes.

The Finance Committee, headed by Mayor Malene Vahl Rasmussen, had originally proposed a tax increase of 2 percent. However, after the budget negotiations, the increase was set at 1 percent.

The municipal director will not comment further.

- I prefer not to enter the case until the court has made a decision. I have full confidence in the bodies involved, writes Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen.
