Among other things, due to doubts about the determination of the rent, the Municipality of Qeqertalik has not been able to rent out a large part of the approximately 40 newly built apartments in Aasiaat located on Svendborgip Aqqutaa for a long time.
Now, however, the municipality has apparently found a way in which the new apartments can be used - namely as municipal offices.
At a meeting on March 19, the municipal council approved a 5-year temporary permit for the temporary use of the "Svendborg Towers" for use as municipal offices for the Municipality of Qeqertalik and for Sullissivik Aasiaat.
Municipal offices affected by mold
Sermitsiaq has asked the municipality why it is now choosing to take this step. The municipality has chosen to respond in writing that the municipal office in Aasiaat is affected by mold, and it has therefore been necessary to temporarily move the staff out of the building.
Currently, employees are distributed to other locations in Aasiaat, and some are working from home, the municipality informs.
"As part of the temporary solutions, it is being considered whether one of the municipality's towers, which is currently not rented, should be used for office facilities," the municipality writes to Sermitsiaq.
A final decision will not be made until later
The municipality expects the new use to be presented to the finance committee in May for a final decision. A final decision must also be approved by the municipal council.
Regarding the mold-affected municipal office, the municipality is working to have the building inspected with a view to developing a plan for mold remediation and the necessary renovation so that employees can return once the conditions are in order, the Municipality of Qeqertalik reports.
