A decision in principle has previously been made to move the Iron and Metal School from Nuuk to Sisimiut in 2030, and the Government of Greenland is now reporting progress in the matter.
A press release states that an agreement has been reached to design a new school in Sisimiut, and a tender process for consultancy services has been carried out, with several offers received.
Based on an overall evaluation, Inuplan A/S has been selected as consultant with Pilu A/S as sub-consultant.
Naalakkersuisoq: Closer to creating a modern framework
Naalakkersuisoq Nivi Olsen states that the ambition with the new school is to develop a comprehensive and attractive educational environment, where professionalism and well-being go hand in hand:
"With the initiation of the design, we are getting closer to creating a modern framework that strengthens both learning, collaboration and innovation," states Nivi Olsen (D).
According to Naalakkersuisut, Inatsisartut's Finance and Tax Committee approved a grant for the purpose in January.
Construction is expected to start at the end of 2027
- After contract negotiations, a contract has now been signed, and the project is thus entering its next phase, writes Naalakkersuisut.
The Government of Greenland expects that the tender process for the construction will be completed by mid-2027. Construction is then expected to begin by the end of 2027, and the school is expected to be in use by the end of 2030.
The approximately 30 employees at the current school in Nuuk have indicated several times that they do not want to move.
