Following an accident on Kangerluarsuk Tulleq (Førstefjorden) near Sisimiut, Greenland Police on Tuesday shared a warning from Qeqqata Kommunia about unsafe ice.
- All traffic on the ice on Førstefjorden is advised against, writes Greenland Police on Facebook.
Chief of Patrol Poul Kreutzmann explains to Sermitsiaq that two accidents occurred independently of each other over the weekend, where vehicles in the form of snowmobiles went through the ice.
- Therefore, we advise against all traffic on the fjord. The ice is only just starting to freeze, and it is very unsafe, says Poul Kreutzmann.
Qeqqata Kommunia writes in its warning that if you do venture out onto the ice, it is important to stick to the paths close to land.
