The Block 5 case about a murder in Nuuk in early October 2024 continues on Monday afternoon, when the first witness interviews have begun.

First we heard from two men who know the accused 42-year-old man personally. One did not want to appear at first and was therefore picked up by the police.

The other says that he had not visited Block 5 with the accused. This is relevant because the accused himself told the constitutional questioning that he was down there at the storage room with the witness, where they allegedly saw a man lying and sleeping.

The third witness worked at a hostel. He said that the accused man was in a life-long quarantine, but could still get a room. It is a bit unclear to us at the time of writing what all the witnesses' information will be used for, but it may become clear later.

Monday's fourth and final witness was the accused's half-sister. They did not see each other very much, but he visited her in October 2024. That was also where the police came to pick him up.

– I noticed that he started to get dressed. (...) I asked what was going on, but got no answer. He just looked at me with a smile, she said.

The 42-year-old accused denies the charges. He has not yet wanted to answer questions in court.

Another man charged

There is also another relevant man in the case who is not on the witness list.

Before the police tracked down the 42-year-old, several other men were arrested for various reasons. One of these men has now been charged, but not indicted.

This means that the prosecution does not consider it appropriate to bring this man to trial right now. But it may still do so later if new information comes to light.

The police have become interested in the man in question because he was in possession of the victim's mobile phone. He is also linked to a bottle of Rød Aalborg, and just such a bottle was found next to the victim.

The man was released in 2024, as there was no basis to detain him any longer.
